I had some decent IEMs before I had full-sized headphones as an undergrad. One of the mid-tier Shure models I think? Also some awful BOSE in-ears.

My first pair of full-sized 'audiophile' headphones was the Audio-Technica W1000 Sovereign. Then came the D2000 and K701. Sold them all except for the Denons which I planned to Markl Mod (but never did lol). After a few more pairs of mediocre headphones, I got the Stax SR-404 system and was in heaven.

The rest is history.

I mostly talk about music there. Weird.

How funny it is to go back to my first post on HF! I barely remember what gear I had at the time! In retrospect, I find it an honorable first post: http://www.head-fi.org/t/20557/first-impressions-on-the-prehead-hd600-sound#post_229863 .

Interestingly, Marv's first post totally relates to how I felt of my RS2 at the time, I guess my first post at HF was also the end of the ears bloodshed with grado gear, sharp SS amplification along with a nice sizzle of crappy source gear ...

I joined Head-Fi shortly after drinking the flavor of the month Kool-Aid that was the Panasonic RP-HTF600, so my first post was naturally about them. My introduction to the headphone world was the HD202. I was happy with them. Then I heard my friend's Grado SR125is, and I just had to own a Grado. After that, I started lurking the Head-Fi forums and things steamrolled from there.

No, not "very best," I was busy following that Dsnuts guy. For what it's worth, I do still own my Monoprice 8320 IEMs that he was promoting and they get the job done.

That said, I was tricked by tdockweiler. His favorite Koss Pro DJ 100s was my next purchase after the HTF600. I liked them during the honeymoon period, but I quickly soured on them. They were one of the first headphones to get sold out of my collection to a friend who is still happily using them. I paid $40 for them, I sold them for $40. No net loss there.

Remind to dig up measurements of that one. Got them buried somewhere.

Heh. Interesting thread.

Mine seems to be about making a pair of Grados behave as well.

My first four were passing on information which I had read about the CMOY and Grados - nothing particularly interesting.

My first thread and fifth post, on the other hand, was entitled "DAC Confusion: Specs Vs Subjective Opinion", in which I asked for people to explain how the Benchmark DAC could be bright with a flat FR and minimal distortion, asssuming that there was some metric I was missing or failing to understand. It's all been downhill from there... ;D

After several years of lurking, I already had rather nice selection of headphones at that time..

1st post there for the 1st post here....Synergy....It's what's for breakfast....

FWIW, I still am using the DMPlus, but I am auditioning for its replacement. Ideas are welcome. Currently listening to: W4S2, Wadia 121...Man it is a pain finding good DAC's to try in Wisconsin.... :)p15
