Probably because the NAD M51 is stable and isn't in permanent beta, i.e. doesn't break or sound different with each firmware version.

Nailed it.  I actually love the way the PWD sounds, but purrin's point above is spot on.  Also, the NAD sounds just as good to me, maybe better in some ways, and costs less.  More than anything, though, I guess it was just time for a change.  It's getting harder and harder for me to notice these small differences between DACs anyway.

Welcome Monkey!

Because the differences are so small, or because your priorities are changing?

Yo.

Came from HF to lurk, look at a few measurements, attempt to learn new things, and hopefully enjoy saner discussion with actual efforts at communication.

Also, one of my favorite bands consists of all pirates.  :)p6

I had the mk1, then upgraded the board to mk2.  I thought it sounded a bit better, but it's really hard to be certain about that.

I'm not looking forward to selling the unit (a) because I like it and (b) because selling shit is such a pain.

This is what makes the NAD M51 so appealing to me. There's some gushing for it elsewhere but what's telling are the more subdued impressions which are usually in comparison to other, well regarded and pricier components. The Stereophile review of the NAD M51 is restrained but positive and backed by measurements that are hard to fault for the unit's asking price ($1500 in Australia).

Also, good to see the population grow here. Voices of reason that are often drowned out on the other site. Welcome to the fold!

Hi there,
I'm a steady lurker who got sick of all the voodoo and the treble-spikes in modern cans... and a certain big forum in general.
So yeah, I was drawn here due to purrin's great graphs and rhytemdevil's & LFF's work on several orthos. Thank you guys.
The previous HP-50s graphs made me finally register. -> recently sniped some HP-50a and am quite impressed (after the stereo-mod, .etc). More headtime than my Sextetts atm.
I lie at anchor in a small German harbor and even though there is plenty of rum available, us lads over here prefer beer on our ships.

The NAD M51 is an excellent well-balanced un-colored very detailed sounding DAC. Had it been released at what I expected to be $1600 in USA, I would have picked up it right away for a second DAC.
