Maybe with different headphones, sources or music it would scale better but personally, it has to do better than that to be worth it's asking price for me.
Having spent time with many amps, I am surprised by your conclusion. But I am happy for you that you had the opportunity to realize your preferences this early in the game as it could be an expensive lesson.

I have the ODAC and what Purrin says about the power supply is true. I will modify mine to accept a regulated supply in due course.

Make a thread to share if you don't mind.  I might go that route if my external battery pack doesn't suffice.  Been thinking of one of these so I can run it w/ my phone via USB on the go.

Thank you dB. I'm very grateful to have had that experience with the LF. Before I had planned to spend $10Grand on a Resolution Audio Cantata -> Cavalli Audio Liquid Fire -> Audeze LCD-3 set up to be my end game. Then my experience with the LF and diminishing returns has now changed my plan to an ODAC -> ODA set up with LCD-2's or CIEM's, which is much more affordable and therefore less stressful to obtain! Now my priority is for something to perform to an acceptable standard in order for music to be enjoyed instead of spending more than I should or need on gear. If I was a millionaire... then it'd be a different story but now I'll go for a humble cheap beginner set up.

It also let me realize how important tranducers were in a set up. I enjoy music much out of an iPod -> LCD-2's than I do DX100 -> Westone 4's/HE-500's/DT770's/Thunderpants. Funds have since been reallocated appropriately.  :D

I think you're going about the right way getting into headphones :)  Audio is a really personal hobby, and I've discovered that a lot of the dogma in the headphone community doesn't apply for me.  The Changstar community is particularly nice, as a lot of the faces I see here are people who don't kowtow to the party line, and can separate their ego from their gear.

I heard the LF and was disinterested enough to not bother with a second listen.  There are a lot of signatures out there in the high-end, and you might find something you like if you dig around long enough.  Tbh, I'm glad I spent a year with a pair of Grado SR225is, then Stax, as it's given me a good reference point for what other headphones do well and not so well.

Hello all!  My name is Greg and I live in Frederick, Maryland.  I joined this site so that I can learn more about headphones.  I currently use a iBasso D7 with either my SRH-840s or AKG-K550s.  Nice forum here.  I'm looking forward to reading through all the different threads.
