Low budget nirvana
« on: November 12, 2014, 11:24:28 PM »

Over the last few weeks,I have been very satisfied with some so-called budget amps(Topping NX1,Audinst Amp HP),DAC(HIFIMEDIY Sabre Tiny DAC),iem(Penon T1E) and digital audio player (Fiio X1).  Coupled with my refurbished laptop running a Linux OS and all my good to high quality mp3 files,I want for nothing except stumbling upon good music when I least expect it. All the other gear that I have accumulated will be placed in storage. :)) ;D

I think I am going to post my random thoughts in this one thread. My own personal thread-blog.

The T1-E has become a spring through fall iem for me. The large drivers get moved when I wear a hood for winter.

There is a part of me that wishes that I would have found about HIFIMEDIY or Stoner Acoustics before buying the Schiit Modi. The Modi ain't bad,I actuallly like it,but I appreciate the minimalism of HIFIMEDIY and Stoner Acoustics.

Another low budget amp that I like is a Sense Audio Sense V1 MOSFET headphone amp.

http://http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sense-V1-Mosfet-Class-A-Headphone-Amplifier-Brand-New-/360434754453?pt=US_Home_Audio_Amplifiers_Preamps&hash=item53eb95e395

It looked interesting to me so I took a gamble on it. I bought much cheaper than the price in the link though. The sound,to my ears, slightly warm, very, very good soundstage and lean bass. I wouldn't call it analytical but it is lean compared to some other amps that I have. It's definitely not a powerful amp so I think it is better suited for low impedance headphones. I am a Grado guy so my SR325i has a euphoric paring with it.

Interested to hear what anyone here thinks of the VSD3S. I just got it a few weeks back...not offended, but not impressed either. (I think the VSD3 is better.)

Odac replica at lower price. Very interesting to replace a crappy PC line out but not more IMO.  Even at this low price I much prefer to save more money and buy a Vali and that would be my advice for any friend whod ask me about a first DAC.

I bought a HiFiMeDIY dac for the ancient laptop that my wife uses, when the internal sound failed. Plug it into a USB port and... sound lives again. No extensive listening, just a quick test. I thought it sounded a little rough, but OK. Heard one that someone had mod-ed: sounded pretty good in a speakers-based hifi!
