What PC audio players do you guys use?

Is there any merit at all in the super fancy ones like JPlay?

Am I missing out using MPC and VLC?

Yes.  JRiver here.  I can say Media Monkey was horrible, far worse than stock Windows Media Player.  WMP on Win8 sounds pretty decent tbh.

Alright, I'll try out JRiver.  I was using the trial version of Jplay through iTunes and thought maybe, just maybe, it was a bit less harsh, but it was impossible for me to really A/B due to how unresponsive its UI (the iTunes one) was.

-Edit-

Are there any particular settings I should be using?

Tools>Options>WASAPI

Select your DAC from the drop down underneath that.

It will give exclusive control to the device so you may not be able to listen to youtube and music at the same time depending on your setup.

Relying solely on the Conductor's stepped attenuator is kind of irritating, but I'll try this out for awhile.  I imagine this will be less of a hassle when I start using W4S DAC2 -> ECBA since the DAC2 has its own 65-step volume control.

Thanks!

huh... any idea why FLAC's wouldn't laod with these settings?

-Edit again-

uh, I guess they work now!

I use foobar2k, mainly because it has a lyrics function.

Nothing can touch foobar IMO. Extremely customizable, lightweight and zero bloat.

You guys should check out MPC as a video player, it can make HD playback much smoother if you have a decent GPU.
