Nitpick: foobar2000 is closed-source.

Closed core but with an open source SDK. Anyway, free + customizable is close enough for me to call it open, as long as I'm out of earshot of linux users and the like  ;)

Talking about PC players, anyone here use crossfeed? I myself use VNOPHONES at 20% .34ms. Great XFEED setting for subtle music playback. Using musicbee with this setting and its just smooth yet not veiled.

I sometimes use some crossfeed with my Sansa Zip. I think foobar has a plug in that does crossfeed as well. I'll check VNOPHONES.

In the end no Xfeed comes out better but it is a good 50/50 thing instead of a 10%/90% thing like the other crssfeed circuits.

I happen to use Bauer (as in bs2b) crossfeed (-3 dB, 1250 Hz) along with Electri-Q (to flat) and SIR convolver (with a "bright" room response impulse - had to slightly mix input in it, room was too wide). All running within VSTHost and with a pretty convoluted  :)p6 setup using Virtual Audio Cable.

I can live without crossfeed, but it is the most important factor in low frequency soundstaging, with eq gaining importance in higher freqs. SIR also improves front/back confusion, esp. with electronica.

I'd like a way to reproduce this setup completely on Linux - the one part that's missing is the convolver. (for eq, I can use FIL-plugins parametric eq, bs2b is also available)

using EasyQ most of the time with my speakers though I plan to get a proper measuring mike to help with room issues. I used Isone a lot during my brother's exams since I can't get the speakers too loud to distract them. Isone is a really really configurable HRTF VST, its not free but not expensive either :)

Am I the only one who is running Decibel on Mac?

It's very sparse and plain but has the features needed for playing just about all file types, can play from RAM, and was designed for 'audiophiles'.

I like it.  It sounds great and has WAY less clutter on the front end.

The only problem with foobar is that it still has playback glitches with my toslink dac. Musicbee has no such problems and sounds a little better IMO.

Ahh figured out that WASAPI push works better with the toslink NOS DAC. No more skipping glitches so far and it sounds ever so slightly more whole/rounded instead of flat and wide like event sounds with my DAC. The differences are very subtle though yet audible. Now that this is working well, I am back to using foobar in portable mode  :money:

I am now using Aimp3, the improved WinAmp 'clone'. I works great for simple use.

The interface is very well thought out.
