Audirvana Plus on OSX.  I've thought of trying Decibel, but I really like Audirvana (been using it for over a year) & see no reason to seek out an alternative at this point

OSX

I've been impressed with J-River but have not made the jump yet.  I'm fine tuning my music server, so the time may be right!

Audirvana still gets the most use, followed closely by Pure Music.

I use Jriver MC19 using audio output as SPDIF WASAPI (thanks to purrin for helping me get the correct settings for my DAC). I was an iTunes user for a long time before getting serious about audio, I got a recommendation from a friend on here and he suggested trying JRiver. I downloaded the trial then bought it. It has everything I need and sounds great plus it is very customizable (Love the VST Plugin feature). I can tell you I'll never go back to iTunes  p;)

On Windows, I did some extensive comparisons of sound quality, and at the end:

Jriver MC18>cPlay>Foobar 0.8.3>MusicBee>Foobar 0.9-and-Later>Winamp

I have found Jriver MC19 with the newer Memory Play to be yet better.

(Those who are comparing micro-detail differences of $1500 DACs would also find a small improvement from turning off the Spectrum display in Jriver.)

Anyone who is skeptical, but has the time to actually read a few pages explaining why there can be a difference in "bit perfect" players, can post a request for the links...

i ordered a laptop but with W8.  currently using W7 on the desktop and MC18.  any idiosyncracies with W8 wrt bit-perfect i should be aware of?  i will be using MC18 on the lappy as well.  i hope W8 isn't neo-Vista.

1. "Vista means death" Moss (IT-Crowd)

2. Depending on the brand, year and version of your respective laptop you can set the laptop to match your preferences. Just figure out W8 first to either mix up metro & desktop or just stay in desktop.

I am curious as to what sets JRiver above Foobar2k, which has been my player of choice for years.

Thoughts?

thanks, that's reassuring.  i'm not sure i'm going to jive with Metro though and will prolly just stay in desktop.
