Just play with the settings and find out what you like the most.

In W8 there is one thing that is very important: a tile can be an application or a program. When you want to download software either third party or via the Windows Store check whether it is an application or a program. The application-program confusion made me curse everything Microsoft when I tried to install Skype.

Hans can tell you much more I think. He really likes W8.

I am curious as to what sets JRiver above Foobar2k, which has been my player of choice for years.

Thoughts?

1. "Vista means death" Moss (IT-Crowd)
Windows 95 had a significant number of "Blue Screen of Death" issues due to having perhaps the greatest level of changes from 3.1 .   Since then, conventional wisdom about "good" and "bad" versions is simply a matter of greater or lesser media publicity to problems.

I've used Vista for playing audio (and video) for six years with no problems, and I am doing so right now.

I saw that.  Do you remember what you noticed, specifically?  Are there others that claim the SQ to be better?

Not trying to doubt you or anything.  I'm genuinely curious...

It was a joke otherwise I would have added some information. The scene with Moss and the bomb technician still gives me a chuckle. Vista was fine after updates and more RAM.

Certainly subtleties - although no more or less than between good DACs, for example.

Like cleaner transients - acoustic guitar notes sound like they have a finger very lightly on the string (dulling the note) or not at all- etc.

I did a quick search and here is a thread from another forum concerning foobar 0.8.3 sounding better than later foobars:

I never put in the time to set up foobar correctly. Ended up with JRiver because it came with all necessary plug-ins ready to use without any hassle on my part. Having real-time DSD conversion to PCM and vice versa, up-sampling / down-sampling, bit-depth, parametric EQ, impulse response convolver, automagickal album cover download, various skins, etc. readily handy was a plus.

I admit, my current foobar skin is one reason I'd hate to part ways with it...simple, lightweight, and sleek, but with all of the features I need.

I use MC19 on my Acer tablet in theater mode via WASAPI Event. Love it.
