I'm suddenly feeling tempted to get a Wii U on Sunday just to have a new toy, since I'll probably get one eventually anyways... Iuno.  I think my dream at this point would be for it to get a lot of high quality HD remakes of GameCube games (mainly Wind Waker), but that seems like too much work for Nintendo nowadays.

Meanwhile, I picked up a bunch of Sega Saturn games earlier today, but still don't have my Saturn yet and I re-bought Skies of Arcadia Legends for more than I originally paid for it new because it's really rare now or something.  I really shouldn't have sold it all those years ago, but I wanted money for... something; I can't remember what now.

There's always dolphin emu for playing HD gamecube games, though you do need a pretty powerful PC for it to run as intended.

Isn't that just upscaled, though?  I did that with Sonic Colors with a Wii emulator awhile back and it still looked a bit off to me.

I have an amazing PC only slightly undermined by the fact that the SSD cops out sometimes.

Basically yes, but it does look much sharper with AA and AF vs using a gamecube on the same screen w/ progressive scan. The zelda games are one of the few that work without problems or only minor ones though, more than half of my collection refuses to boot using dolphin.

Checked on Amazon for the Wii U. There seems to be plenty of 3rd party sellers trying to flip these for way over the MSRP, asking $550 or so. There was even one guy trying to hock his for $800.

Fuck you U.

I remember waiting in line when I was younger for console launches. Maybe I'm getting to be an old fart (I'll be 30 this month...), but I just can't stand that kinda stuff anymore. I'd rather just wait and pick one up later at a sane price and not have to elbow soccer moms in the face.

In general, flippers just piss me off. Now that Twinkies are out of production, you've got assholes buying up cart loads and trying to make a profit by selling them on eBay. I wouldn't be surprised to see these guys rip a box right out of some kid's hands. Never mind there are so many knock offs, and I'm sure another company will swoop in and buy up the rights for Twinkies.

I mostly talk about music there. Weird.

Imma get a box of Twinkies and keep it in my secret chest alongside my silver, Bucky Balls, and first edition Pokemon cards, which will all be currency after things go to shit.

I might go to Target later and see if there's a Wii U left because *shrug* I guess I'll get one anyways, for Pikmin 3 in December, at the very least.  It can't turn out as bad as the Wii, can it?

Went on a morning jog to enjoy the nice weather and decided to stop off at the local Best Buy on a whim. They had one of the basic model Wii Us left in stock but were sold out of the more expensive bundles with "Nintendo Land." Decided to pick one up, since I don't foresee ever needing more than 8 gigs given that I rarely ever play the original Wii. Plus it looks better in white IMO. It was awkward having to carry the system while walking home, especially as they were out of bags. ;___;

Went with the obligatory Mario Bros. U.

Also I was surprised to see Mass Effect 3 already out, and despite the absolutely retarded idea of releasing only the last game in a trilogy (especially one that is based on your previous decisions), I briefly considered getting it out of curiosity to see any changes and implementation of the touch screen. But I held off, and reading the earliest reviews, I'm glad I did. Seems the interactive comic that lets you make the important decisions from the last two games is an utter failure, boiling down important plot points to "will you help your team? Y or N." As one review said, who is going to say "no?" Plus any DLC from the second game---ie. some of the best parts---isn't included in the interactive comic. So any Shadow Broker stuff with Liara is left out, making all the dialog about it in ME3 seem oddly out of place now. I do like the idea of using the touch pad to draw battle plans and coordinate your squad, but they missed some serious opportunities with letting you use it as a codex or for managing weapons upgrades. Plus the controls are apparently laggy. Oh, and no DLC until December at least.

Sheesh. What levels BioWare* sinks to for money these days...

(*apparently this conversion was handled by a company whose only prior experience was working on some iOS games?).

I'm much more interested in Arkham City: Armored Edition. No reviews yet...

I used a friend's Target discount to get the deluxe wii u earlier and mario because... iuno, there was nothing else I really wanted.  And maybe this one will be better?

-Edit-

Thoughts so far:

Bad
- Putting a resistive touch screen on such an expensive device in the year 2012 is kind of disgusting.
- Why aren't the triggers analog?  That alone is going to hurt ports quite a bit :/
- I've heard this update I'm doing takes over an hour.
- No GameCube compatibility.

Good
- The console itself feels very nice, like a decent piece of hardware.
- Came with an HDMI cable and a charge station for the control pad!
- Uses the Wii's sensor bar and AV cables (if you're not using HDMI) meaning you probably have spare stuff for it already.
- The pad feels pretty nice to use!
- Its analog sticks click.
- 4 USB ports.
- Connecting to wifi wasn't problematic as in the early days of the Wii.

More to come after this update.

So I thought that, with a gamepad and 2 wiimotes, my friends and I could play a 3 player game of NSMBWU and, well... we technically can, but the pad user is limited to laying down blocks.  There's absolutely no way for that player to, you know, play the game despite having a full range of controls at their disposal. i feel like any other company would have an option come up on the pad screen asking if you want to be player 3 or use "boost mode," which is the crappy block thing, but Nintendo didn't think of that.

Nintendo Land's alright, but its tutorial NPC never shuts up.

I question the longevity of the Wii in the less casual market, having owned a Wii and DS. I've fallen well out of love with Big N's first-party titles (though the Mario Galaxy games and DKCR were quite enjoyable), and fear the relatively early death of everyone else.

I need a HDTV or LCD monitor for gaming, yet am much too cheap. Hopefully Dell U2713 or U3013 down the line, I may be Asian, but these eyes can only squint with diminishing effectiveness. Dragon's Dogma is a total no-go.
