Haven't had any time to play around with the Wii U. Not going to get much of a chance later this week either, since it's sort of like "obligation week" on my calendar.

Kinda funny I bought the damn thing when it utilizes the two of the three trends in gaming I dislike most: motion gameplay and touch screens. All I need is to play it on a "3D TV" and I'll be set for maximum annoyance lol.

The touch screen thing is probably the least offensive for me, and I actually sort of like the more clever implementations, but reading through game reviews it seems to be a classic case of last minute add-ons when it comes to touch screen functionality with a lot of these games so far. Like the developers don't really know what to do with it and add in some token feature out of an obligation to do so. Setting down blocks as the extent of Mario U's implementation is kinda disappointing to read. At least in Mario Galaxy the second assistant player could fire projectiles and hold enemies back. It would be neat if you could draw cages around enemies or trigger objects or something too.

I'd love to have the entire Mass Effect trilogy get released on the Wii U with the ability to draw tactical operations on the touch screen (would make the first game a LOT less frustrating early on), view codex entries using the pad, upgrading weapons and assigning skill points and equipment (again: the first game would really benefit from a touch screen when it comes to equipment management), and perhaps use it for launching probes and scanning planets. That would be really nice. Unfortunately it will never come about.

I mostly talk about music there. Weird.

Muppet, you should just let it start updating before you go to work so you can actually play it whenever you're able to.  The initial update took over an hour on my Comcast and the system should just turn itself off if it's not used for an hour after that.

Two things the Wii U does have going for it, which developers do know how to use, are an adequate amount of RAM and analog sticks.  Forced motion control aside, a game developer on another forum I used to be on, when describing the Wii's inevitable abundance of shovelware, probably put it best when he said "no one wants to develop games in 2007 on 2001 hardware."  The ability for porting alone makes me think the Wii U will turn out at least as worthwhile as the GameCube (which I loved).

Would it be a bad idea to upgrade from WinXp to Win7 (64-bit) with only 2GB of DDR2 ram, for gaming? Current setup:

E8400
2GB ram
HD4850 512mb
WD Caviar Black

My MB doesn't support DDR3, and another 2GB stick of DDR2 would be expensive and kind of a waste.

If you could manage to get a windows 7 product key off of a friend who got a new computer recently and doesn't want to upgrade to windows 8... you could go to windows 8 for like $15 instead of $40. :)

Its a lot lighter than windows 7 (for general use at least, not too sure about gaming though).

Steam ID: Anathallo

Speaking of steam, apparently there is a black friday deal where you can download Torchlight I and II for FREE.  Don't know what the catch is, but apparently this is going to be a deal this weekend.

Torchlight II for free.  Pretty killer.

Yes, it would be a bad idea.  If you had a DX11 GPU or 4gb RAM or more it'd be another story though.

Edit.
Well it depends on your priorities , I do miss some handy features of 7 when I use XP(especially the search function), and personally can browse through siginificantly quicker using 7,  but it will use about 50% more RAM at idle in the 64-bit version, less so if you can install the 32-bit one.

You don't need a DX11 GPU to play games on Win7, but you should definitely have over 2GB of RAM, yeah.

Apparently my Saturn came today but no one was around to sign for it :/

Newer games are becoming more Win7+ only (CoD: BO2, Sleeping Dogs, etc.), main reason why I want to upgrade.

I had totally forgotten microsoft decided to keep DX10 out of XP, I'd say it's worth it if you really want to play those games, but it'll use close to 1gb RAM at idle and that may become the limiting factor for playing them anyways. Try to find some cheap used DDR2 sticks.
