Thanks, Eric.  I already nabbed a 32 at the $148 price and have an X128 for $329 (Wave S plus upgrade).  Have not done the Femto Clock upgrade on the X128 though...

New perks on the Wave (next 72 hours only):
  • Some USB cable "Lightspeed"
  • Tuning for IEMs
  • Tuning for half THD
  • Package deals with the Pulse

The IEM tuning one interests, but confuses me. LH says if you give them an extra $128, they'll "lower the noise floor by 5 decibels," "fine tune the power output to 100mW," and "upgrade the output amplifier to minimize DC offset."
Is the vanilla Wave bad for IEMs??

These guys have figured out how to play this kickstarter game, haven't they!

Yeah, I think they've definitely jumped the shark here. Considering more and more about pushing for that refund. I was on the fence before, but... this is interesting, and not in a good way for me. Wouldn't it be better for the individual buyer if they had the option to choose between the two packages, but without having to pay a hefty premium? Or something. A gain switch would be a decent compromise, no? At least put one on the vanilla Wave.

Yeah. And the lack of details (dimensions, estimated battery life) is pushing me away from clicking that purchase button...

I'd wait to hear what Larry says. I find the "untuned" geek out products great for IEMs.

I think there may be too much fragmentation in the near future (still so many design choices undecided), which sort of hurts the whole "you're getting a good deal, particularly on the 32GB model". Now it feels like I've bought into the relatively sh1t version, and if I want to be part of the cooler kids, I should expect to pony up. Not necessarily the reality, but it could be perceived that way. If you're already vested into the Wave, it's not an issue, but anyone who isn't exactly sure to begin with...

Their 'shit' version as you call it, is essentially the same thing as any Geek Out people are using now, except at different power output.  It should still sound cleaner than a Geek Out since there's no USB or PC/Mac side to deal with.

EDIT: Nevermind. I'm just bitching for the sake of bitching, caught in the mindset of an entitled child who's pissed that his train set from the thrift store is a darker shade of red than the more expensive ones they sell at Costco. Or something. It's not fair to LH or anyone else, this behavior.

It helps to remind yourself that these guys sell a 20k$ DAC, so they were already pretty full of sh1t to begin with. The nickel and diming isn't all that surprising. It's like dealing with a car dealership: make sure that you know exactly what you want and how much you want to pay for it before going in.

Except that in this case you are literally entitled as both a customer and an investor.
