Bear in mind I owned the IE8s almost 4 years ago, but I think I still remember their sig pretty well.

The IE8s have excessive midbass which clearly impacts negatively on the midrange, IMO, and recessed treble. So, the Senns would sound overly warm & pretty boomy in relation to the Tenores' overall flatter FR, where even the tasteful sub-bass lift of the latter presents you with a fairly textured low-end that many much more expensive phones simply lack. Midrange and treble are simply no contest: the Tenores simply shine.

BUT, if you're very happy with the IE8s, or used to warm or dark-sounding phones, you may find the Tenores' linearity perhaps fairy thin-sounding, or, initially, fairly bright-sounding — this would be more obvious on bright(er) recordings or poorly-mastered albums (mostly found in pop & rock music in the last 15-20 years). But, by the same token, you may find the Tenores (much) more revealing, as if a veil had been lifted from the Senns, and you may then think, "God, what have I been listening to all this time!".

Moved on from the IE8 to a JH13 couple of years ago, but part of me still misses the Senn. Maybe I do like something warmer.
Still, at this price, you've got me curious.

Oh, I remember now, you did mention your JH13s in the Earpods thread. Never heard the 13s myself, but I'm sure the Tenores would come (much) closer to the 13's sonics than to the IE8's.

If you decide to get a pair, don't be surprised if you suddenly (secretly) find yourself enjoying the Tenores more — and I'm not joking here as expectation bias is undeniable and very strong, that is, it's pretty hard for us to believe/accept that such a budget phone can come (so) close to, or even surpass, a $1,000(+) phone in some/several respects — I know for a fact I'd easily take my ~$50 Tenores over my $850 (+cost of shipping & ear impressions) current pair of customs (Westone ES3X). I'll soon find out how the Tenores fare against my own pair of UERMs, though, as noted already, having heard James' UERMs already, only a few weeks back, the Tenores more than hold their own.

Since it is my intention not to be seen as a Tenore fanboy or a Zero Audio shill, I feel I really must mention a couple of negative aspects that might be a deal-breaker to many out there:

—  These phones do not come with detachable cables. Sadly, no chance to get a $300 silver cable, a $1,300 "Uber" cable or a $1,500+ Piccolino cable.

—  No burn-in needed. Unfortunately, the Tenores do not need 300/500/2000 hrs of burn-in—they sounded great right out of the box. However, maybe 2000+ hrs will change things…for the worse.

—  Although Zero Audio is a Japanese company, I was shocked to find out the Tenores are made in China. If these, for some reason, cannot be made in Japan, why can't they be made in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Holland, Scandinavia, the US, Canada, or even oh soooo cool old Britain?

For a vented IEM isolation is actually very good.

Tom,

Take this post in the spirit in which it's written, ie no offence meant.

No offense taken --- I'm fully aware I have screwed up ear canals; well, at least my left side is. I almost never get a good fit with universals for my left ear, and that's why I'm one of the few people better served with customs.

I gotta always get the rectangular-ish earplug style tips or universal IEMs are a no go for me.

What are those?  Don't think I've ever seen rectangular ones.  Do you mean the square cut comply foam type cylinders?

Seeing that in the last couple of days my popularity has increased even more—my karma going from +36/-146 to a whopping +38/-156 (who would've thought?)—, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the Pirates (you know very well who you are) for the overwhelming positive response to my posts in this thread and the Tenore IEMs themselves.

I'm told by Zero Audio that, as far as they can tell, at least 142 Pirates, wannabe-Pirates, or people who claim they heard of the Tenores in this thread, have ordered a pair. I'll admit I never expected that — 40, 60 Pirates perhaps at most, but 142…so far? Well, wow...just WOW!

Anyway, this morning I get a $1,420 bank transfer (commission on 142 pairs sold— $10 for every pair sold), and while my wonderful daughter and I are very grateful for such an unprecedented positive response—she, after all, knows her dad is quite fond of The Kings Of Incoherence, aka the AKG K3003, and knows what that means in certain quarters and this site, in particular—, the poor thing doesn't yet know she won't be getting a single penny from said shilling services. She already kinda suspects most of that money will be used to acquire more phones/gear, but she also knows her dad won't ever get a Noble Audio or JHA product (or quite possibly a Tralucent Audio product) no matter how generous a discount her dad may get from these 'companies' — she seems to think her dad still has some integrity & a tiny bit of common sense left.

One more/last request to the mod(s): How about changing my karma again to, say +14/-392? That would seem pretty fair to me.
