I wouldn't call it fun, but more of a workout. A friend at a bank I used to work at introduced me to it. He was really one of those really big gentle giants who could hold a big handgun with one arm extended out and shoot with amazing accuracy. He dug up some old medieval manuals and made some training swords out of wood. We sparred a bit using hockey gear for protection, but mainly we drilled on thrusts, slashes, footwork, recovery, combinations. The repertoire of moves is simple - which probably meant that mastery would be difficult.

Those weapons don't need to be sharp to hack someone into two. I am almost positive the weapon was designed to mow down peasants for fun. Very dangerous. I bet they are illegal in CA.

I disagree that he's writing in plain english. I think it's more the cowardice of hijacking a thread spewing irrational thought and then not taking responsibility. Maybe gin is involved on his side, but there's no hypocrisy on my part in posting research that shows people rarely, very rarely use a gun in self defense and when they do, there is statistically no better outcome versus any other attempt at self defense in terms of bodily harm they receive and then, in an unrelated thread, posting a woman in the music business' experience of sexual assault while she was unconscious. That's hypocrisy only to someone who can't think.

He also seems to have questioned women's right to vote... I hope alcohol is involved, because that's nuts.

Completely agreed on it being a good thing for women to speak up.

Cling to your statistics while ignoring the ones you don't agree with. Usual behavior by such a knight of truth like yourself. Not to mention I already argued against those statistics a few times to which you had no response or argument at all. Statistics require analysis and they have to pass the sniff test especially when they are politically charged, motivated, funded or biased. When your statistics you cling to say a rock is 5% more effective than a gun, I'm going to call BS. Not to mention your stats were very limited and did no discuss lives saved or deaths prevented and did not define 'injury' and what that criteria entails. If I kill an assailant who only stabbed me once and survive, it's better than leaving him alive to stab me 20 times and die. Your statistics don't discriminate the difference.

Or you could just use common sense and/or look at a video of real life. You can link a study saying the sky is yellow but all I have to do is look outside at the sky to know you are full of shit.

Yeah you draw inane generalized extrapolations from the select works of biased accountants hiding behind a desk and I link real word video of real lives being saved by the correct and legal use of a firearm. Who's living in a fantasy world again?

Must be nice to be such a powerful big shot to hide behind your keyboard in your little apartment while cowards like myself go fight terrorists who want to kill stupid people like yourself. You're awesome, I bask in your chiropractic glory. If only the world had your bravery and martyr complex. Whatever they are teaching you with that Balut Maga, it is leading to serious sense of false confidence.

Yeah, you agree that women should speak up. After they get raped. I beleive they should be able to not get raped. Minor difference between us. Congratulations, your Code Pink card is in the mail.

Before you even understand and learn how to handle a stick, staff or sword you have to learn the stance, footwork and breathing techniques.

Often people look at fencing and only see the weapon. I see a mind that controls a wrist and hand in balancing every aspect before defending or striking. The longer the weapon the more likely it is made for longer distances. Distance can save your life in battle.

Fencing in its various forms learns you things many people overlook in martial arts and self-defence. Regulating footwork and distance while reading your opponent's body language become second nature. One opening or wrong move and you strike...

This is why stabbing sword arts are generally more effective than slashing or hacking ones. 9/10 times Rapier>Katana.

FWIW Kunlun, I do think there should be a basic competence quiz before people cast a vote. But I suppose you're going to say "DAS RACISS"

@anax You haven't explained your stance that women shouldn't vote.

And thinking that "common sense" should be taken over the facts shown by research is basically our difference. That, and you think women shouldn't vote...

PS I've been accused of being a "realist" and a "historicist" (sic?) by ultra far leftist pro-stalin terrors types, so I annoy crazies on both extremes.

@OJ, look up the old tests southern whites used to use to prevents blacks from voting. But yeah, it's okay in theory, just that we want more participation in the voting process in the U.S., not less. Maybe a test combined with other things so more people vote.

So, that's a backpeddle on the women's voting rights? Cool.

I tell that to my wife all the time. I love getting her pissed off to the point where she calls me asshole and uses the F word. Then my son gets in on it and fines her money (she says bad words are bad, and agreed to give him money every time she uses them. I wisely opted out of that arrangement.) so he can spend it on iPad games.

My kids don't say bad words, mainly because I've taught them all the bad words. I love it when my 10 year old daughter stubs her toe and yells "Fuck!"
