I honestly wonder if this level of insult and condescension would be tolerated here on the Chang if it was someone other than Asshatilus.

Anaxilus is far from the worst I have witnessed. Besides he actually does make his point in plain English.

The Bill Cosby deposition in the NYT, I could not finish it. The formulations Bill Cosby used to "excuse/explain" himself are things of a terrible nature. Too terrible to read in one go for me.

Women who are victims of abuse are too often neglected at the cost of a deep trauma and perpetrators walking away doing the "Pontius Pilate" which is simply embarrassing and sets dangerous precedents. In the Netherlands this is still a difficult topic. In general abuse is often almost taboo or too difficult to handle for many people and agencies.

It is a good thing that women speak up for themselves, full stop.

Can I apply for a permit for open carry? That's really what I want. Easier to get out to shoot mountain lions and bears. Yeah... I saw a two bears in while hiking near Mammoth Lakes last weekend. No bears in the trails where I live, but there are mountain lions and transient weirdos. Nature is dangerous. Probably will never need to use a gun, but you never know. Rather not read in newspapers "7 year old boy mauled by mountain lion."

Wear a belt with a metal buckle ( I do) that you can swing like a crazed lunatic AND/OR teach your son to work as a team where he looks for jagged rocks and you're the rock flinger.
I have thought of these scenarios if you can believe it.

Marv, you should teach your kid how to use a sling. Or maybe ninja stars are more appropriate in your case.....I believe he would be genetically disposed to pick that skill up quicker :D

Arrrggg! The thing is I am hardly a gun nut. Gosh darn, I just want to have a 45 with me while I hike nature trails. I mean, I sure fricken Andy Griffith had one with him while he hiked the trails surrounding Mayberry with Opey. I don't feel like I'm in America anymore.

Ninja stars are illegal in California.

WTF, half of my junior high school friends had them when ninja shit was all the craze in the early 80s.

BTW, are two-handed swords allowed? I trained in medieval two-handed / bastard swords.

Yup, two handed swords are allowed (Rennaisance Faire) as long as they aren't in a cane or walking stick.

Seriously? Was that completely fun?

I disagree that he's writing in plain english. I think it's more the cowardice of hijacking a thread spewing irrational thought and then not taking responsibility. Maybe gin is involved on his side, but there's no hypocrisy on my part in posting research that shows people rarely, very rarely use a gun in self defense and when they do, there is statistically no better outcome versus any other attempt at self defense in terms of bodily harm they receive and then, in an unrelated thread, posting a woman in the music business' experience of sexual assault while she was unconscious. That's hypocrisy only to someone who can't think.

He also seems to have questioned women's right to vote... I hope alcohol is involved, because that's nuts.

Completely agreed on it being a good thing for women to speak up.
