Well, assuming the diaphragm is an ellipse, with the surface area being 3430mm^2, that the EL-8's driver is elliptical  and going by that one of the radii is 50mm based on the 100mm "size" measurement, the other radii would be 21.84, or approximately 22mm.

Here's a 500px x 220px ellipse I made quickly to illustrate:

I guess I'm just overreacting, but... the information is on this page:
https://www.audeze.com/products/el-8-collection

And I think it's unnecessary sensationalism for Audeze to misrepresent the size of the driver. What's wrong with reporting diaphragm surface area like they always have?

I think because 100 is a nice number and it is in different unit so you can't directly compare EL-8 to LCDs so you will know the EL-8 actually has smaller diaphragm.

Maybe it's pleated to increase surface area...  ;)

Do you think there may be an acoustic leak from the jack hole? ~Tyll Hertsens

Not sure if I like stuffing one hole or both holes. Tending toward one hole since both holes seems kinda ghey ~Purrin

Oh em gee, that's genius!

Now that you mentioned it, I remember Jude mentioning Audeze put a good amount of engineering into the diaphragm and technology of the EL-8.

I don't know if the Hugo or the nose piercing on a grow man is more undermining in that pic.

New review: http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0315/Audeze_EL_8__Headphone_Review.htm

Mike might be a great guy, I don't know. But honestly I cannot read through his "review" here or many of his HF posts.  Can others? First it is his "review", but then later not his review, but just some journalistic impressions or something or other. I tried to skim, but just kind of got lost and dropped off there. Too much "all about me" talk and silly drug references. I just want to get a concise description of how the cans sound. Is that too much to ask for?   Darko write-up was much more my style.

It is easy. Just follow the old rule:The more words, the worse the product.

I think Mike is fact a great guy but his impressions/review don't really help you understand the EL-8. He's a self professed Audeze fanboy. That's really all you need to know.

Yup. Also just about everything he writes is a total rave review. There's very little useful information, good or bad. And honestly at this point of buying, selling, and swapping gear, I look for a reviews that point out negatives, more than ones that are all positive. All his posts regarding the EL-8 could be condensed to "they sound great".
