Valhalla 2

Fellow pirates have pointed pointed out to me that this just came up: http://schiit.com/products/valhalla-2.
Is this at THE SHOW?

BTW, I've heard this a few times already. This is a little awesome sounding tube amp for higher impedance headphones. Buy it.

lol!

yes it was. I'd expect it to be good with low Z phones as well. No complaints when I tried it with the HD650 or PS500

Jason didn't mention it uses a WCF (white cathode follower), but that would explain how the Zout is so low (3.5ohm) on low gain. I'd guess he's applying some of that evil negative feedback too!

Looks good and to top it off no change in price. Been using vali with my hd800 and found no real reason to change yet so think I'll pass this time round. Would love to hear it though.

The upgrade path from Vali is Lyr 2 for orthos and Vahalla for high Z cans. I've heard both. The Lyr 2 is a incremental improvement from the Lyr. The Vahalla 2 is a significant improvement. I haven't done direct comparisons, but my feelings are that the Vahalla 2 is in the same league of the Crack up to but not quite the S7 w/ EP transformers.

But what about low-Z dynamics / IEMs? I have a friend who's been unsatisfied with his Vali, because he uses a K550.

I'd have to try it. Got an AD2000 (low Z, high eff) that I think would work well on Vahalla 2.

I don't know about the Valhalla 2, but the Lyr2 looks like a promising amp.  I wonder if it'll give a little extra wetness to the 560, which can get dry at times.  Then again I don't even know what the 'production' 560 sounds like at this point compared to the 'preorder' edition.
