I listened to the Valhalla 2/Bifrost combo with UERM for a while today.  It didn't blow my doors off, but it was certainly pleasant and listenable (which the original Valhalla wouldn't have been with IEMs).

I really like my AD2000. I'm curious what you think of the pairing.

Heard the Valhalla 2 with the HD650 in high gain mode. Felt it provided more detail than the Asgard 2 (w the same HD650). Both the Asgard 2 and Valhalla 2 bass hits hard with the right songs. Low gain mode in the Valhalla 2 works well with the Grado cans too. Didn't have my HD558's to try them on low gain mode, but based on what I heard with the Grados they should work well.

Awesome the HD650's are my go-to cans!

will I replace my Vali as a secondary amp with either it or the Lyr 2?

The upgrade path from Vali is Lyr 2 for orthos and Vahalla for high Z cans. I've heard both. The Lyr 2 is a incremental improvement from the Lyr. The Vahalla 2 is a significant improvement. I haven't done direct comparisons, but my feelings are that the Vahalla 2 is in the same league of the Crack up to but not quite the S7 w/ EP transformers.

So I gather that you think it is a good value pairing with the HD800s?

Cool impressions especially in comparison with the Crack. I feel that the Crack is an aging product in terms of the supply of good tubes left for it though.

Didn't get a chance to listen to the pairing explicitly, but I have a feeling Valhalla 2 + HD800 could be a killer system. Just based on the fact that the Valhalla2 seemed very capable of breathing extra life into the 'phones.

Can Valhalla 2 reasonably drive the hungry orthos too, or is Lyr 2 that much better at it?
Conversely, can Lyr 2 drive high efficiency headphones?
