Here's a video review of the O2 - Epiphany Acoustics version. I haven't heard the O2 yet however I've doubts that this review is... accurate... as it's inconsistent with everything else out there on the O2.

Any thoughts? (esp. from people who have listened to the O2?)

that review is suspect, and annoying as most reviews are for me. A bit too professional. I love the part where he goes into detail about how the led light shows the unit is ON, would have never guessed.......I agree it is counter to most others. Plus the guy didn't mention what headphones he used. How can you describe details of male vocals vs female vocals impressions, and then claim the nuance are the result of the amp? Could very well be the headphones that have 'forward bass, analag sound, big warm midrange, great male vocals' etc, which is my guess because no one else describes nwavg as analog, warm vocals, forward bass etc..........I have the odac coming and am interested in hearing what the objective sound is in dac form.

That review is good for the lulz...

Mine just sounds clean and clear.  I think these kinds of wildly divergent impressions are a good argument for extensive measurement and testing.

so do you guys have any recommends for a reasonably priced dac or dac/amp? I must say I've been dissapointed with the several i've tried (jdslabs, fiio, nuforce etc) and the only one I enjoy and kept so faris the matrix mstage/dac in class a/b mode.

if your computer has good firewire/IEEE host i would try some audio interfaces. for non firewire, the only good ones i know of is Behringer Ultramatch Pro and e-mu 0404. could try those. the Behringer Ultramatch Pro is kinda big since it's meant to be racked with power amps and preamps so depends how much desk space you have or need. the e-mu is small and compact though. for firewire echo is known to make very good interfaces with high quality texas instrument converters(same thing apogee uses and RME but usually far more expensive even though they use the same texas instrument chips)

You mean other than the ones mentioned in the thread?

Maybe share what you didn't like about the others and what you are looking for.  Why you prefer the matrix etc.

Just had my first listen to the o2. This is a nice amp for the price thats for sure. My dt250-250 is very controlled with this amp and dynamics are very good especially for a portable amp. My only minor complaint is that it has a brightness to it that is similar to that of the hifiman he6 in the mid treble that can probably get annoying with certain songs and with certain cans. Of course, the brightness isn't as big a boost as what the he6 has, but still it is there. The dt250-250 sounds great with the o2 though since a little etch here and there can help tighten up the sound of these slightly soft sounding cans.

I'd like to add that I find very hot recordings to clip at high gain though. weird. Even though the volume is turned down, adele for example sounds distorted.

Turning down the volume control in foobar for example makes the sound lose the clipping even with the same resulting total volume after turning up the main volume of the o2 to compensate.

Check that your input is < 2 volts.  Adele is actually poorly mastered and compressed tbh.
