purrin - Thanks for revisiting the impressions. I know you would've done it out of curiosity, rather than succumbing to the opposing views, but I hope you didn't take offence from the questions raised.

The utility of forums like this is that it allows people who don't have access to the same components to calibrate with particular posters who do. Obviously nothing trumps a personal audition, but when that is not possible, an impression where there is a known quantity (in this instance the Gungnir) can be incredibly useful and give a general sense of the other gear being examined. Obviously this goes without saying. I just wanted to voice it as (for me) it is important. I know that presenting a dissenting view can sometimes come across as nefarious, with ulterior motives, and people get defensive and discourse gets heated. My intentions were to clarify how you came to your conclusions, and to recalibrate your take with my own findings. Wasn't seeking agreement. Just an understanding.

This particular assessment has probably run its course, but I would be interested to read Lord Analmort's take on the Gungnir. Perhaps the EQ and other gear employed compensated for the Gungnir's inherent niggles that Maxvla, myself and others find distracting.

Guru, you seem to like following me around and calling me a liar.

If there are only a few people with a thing, and they all truly like it, that is different from what you describe. When it finally makes its way to someone who doesn't like it, it doesn't invalidate everyone else before, it is just another opinion. Your tone (here and there) is quite rude and not welcome. Based on my limited experience with the PWD I think Mike and Marv are wrong, but I don't accuse them of  masturbating to it.

You are taking this personally and your anger at me is misdirected. I have never called you a liar or even insinuated that. I don't know where you got that from. My only comment was about how people were going overboard on the Concero on Head-fi.

As a matter of fact I had opted out of getting the Concero (posted) and was looking at getting the Matrix X-Sabre. Based on your (re)views I came to the conclusion that it is a better product than the Concero. It sounds slightly better and has a ton of features/build quality that justify the extra $400 price tag IMO. So because of your viewpoint, I actually do have a pre-order for the X-Sabre with Arthur.

My apologies if you thought the remarks were specifically directed at you. All I can say they were not. (or at any specific individual). Guess it's time to move on from the forums.

NOTE: Big difference between a  DAC (capable of ) giving a  BJ (what I posted) and you masturbating to it (what you took it be). That definitely is not what I said in the post. So the whole post got misconstrued again.  No wonder you are all upset about it.

Very well, you just seem to enjoy being the antagonistic vocal skeptic.

As one of two on HF who had one, and the reason why Mike and Marv have one to try, and am the one of the two from HF that is a member here, you can see how those comments seem particularly pointed at me.

I have no issues with those who disagree with me, but those who question my integrity I do. Apologies if I misunderdtood your words.

You are right about that. But maybe not the "seem to enjoy" part.

I continue to be mystified as to how you can conclude that people are "going overboard" about the Concero when you've implicitly admitted that you haven't heard it (When I asked whether you had heard it, a simple "yes" or "no" would have been a fully adequate answer, but you chose to dodge the question).  If you've heard it and you think it's being over-hyped, and you'd like to explain why you think that, I would be eager to see that explanation and try to understand why your assessment differs from mine.  When you're ready to do that, that would be great.  Until then, I'm kinda left wishing we had an "ignore" button here.

Not at all. As I've said, I don't doubt what you hear nor I do think you are wrong. I'm more interesting in finding out why the differences. Analmorticus and I do live closer by, so it's easier for us to establish a more common language and reference points.

These things are hard to do. I look back and realized that perhaps I may over-analyzed the DACs. I've since put a lot more time on the Gungnir and X-Sabre (been listening much of the day and falling asleep on the couch). I've grown the appreciate the Gungnir much more, and the X-Sabre less. As I've indicated on HF, DACs are a very personal thing. The X-Sabre commits too many errors for me to enjoy.

I'll leave this open for questions if any - the more specific the better.

I did. See notes. I actually have a decent amount of DSD and hires which I listen to on a regular basis.

I guess then that rules out the X-Sabre too for me.

And I see the knives are out for me and the sharks are circling!  walk the plank
