I do wonder if the Gungnir I have may have undergone production changes. FWIW, it's been left on for over several days. It's more likely that the Gungnir's characteristics gel much differently with what I'm using (Fostex speakers and HE-500, both of which have a downward sloping FR and are laid back in the upper midrange around 5k-6k). I believe you guys use HD800s?
Yes, HD800s. I did use it sparingly with the LCD-2 when I had it, but the increase was almost not noticeable with the LCD-2, they just can't scale beyond mid-fi gear.

I ordered my Gungnir (and Mjolnir) on release day so it was in the first batch. I assume yours is either a preproduction model since you are tight with Jason, or from the first batch as well.

Nope.  Newest batch.  So bad assumption.

I'm loving the opportunity to witness the evolution of your style of collaborative review. The table format is a refreshingly usable alternative to the difficult-to-navigate walls of HF text.

Agreed. It is fantastic. I also love the grading system, though I would have gone so far as to keep the grading within the sphere of the reviewed pieces so that you can have more definitive range going from F to A and any gradations between (+s and -s).

It indeed does go from A to F. Just none of the gear in question deserved a D or F in those categories. And I can rename plenty of more expensive DACs which would have received D's or F's. At worse, anything specific quality as no worse than "average". This is actually a first for me. Nothing sounded bad.

I thought I did name a piece of gear in the D/F range.

The Matrix Quattro DAC would have received a D in at least one area. It's generally really hard to fuck up that much with DACs. Now, if a modified version of the spreadsheet were applied to amps, you've be seeing F's all over the place.

Well I said within the sphere of the devices being reviewed, so the worst would be F and best would be A and it couldn't be compared to other reviews. This is worse for comparing reviews to each other, but that's problematic anyways due to differences in, well, everything. Having more gradations in a single review gives more accuracy.
