So before the B22 there was no such thing as external PSs?

I'll take the second chassis personally.

Pretty simple- with the amount of stuff Craig puts in these separate chassis, having it all in one box wouldn't fit on your average rack.  That many transformers and tubes can't help heat either.  All the sticklers will want galvanic isolation and what have you, it ends up being simpler for all concerned to have a two-box.

err..taht's just BS.
Power amplifiers have a hella lot more gain than headphone amplfiiers..you don't see them using mutiple chassis. At least not the majority of them.

Headroom and B22 builders ruined it in headphone amp industry. It makes good marketing sense however..lots more promotional material to add to the product webpage. 'shows' you are a serious audiophile manufacturer that you took the pains of moving the PSU into a separate box..and for others its a way to sell an add on like in the case of the Apex Volcano increasing their profit margins on the same product essentially. My humble 2 cents of course. i know a lot of you if not all of you disagree with me on this.

On the contrary, it's sheer excess and deserves to be pointed out and ridiculed  :)p6

I haven't really thought about this before, but the HR/b22 thing is probably right.  Electrostatic HP amps (electra) have way more gain than power amps. ;)  I think about 30 dB is typical on power amps, whereas something like the BHSE is at 54 dB of gain per headamps specs.

When you say it's BS, are you saying it's inaudible?  I'd agree in most cases though I do remember people having actual noise issues on 1 chassis b22s.  Proper layout is probably the issue there, but I'm sure it's measurable (not necessarily audible) often enough.

The Electra chassis with 8 tubes and iron is already a fairly large size and heavy. I think it's almost a necessity to keep the power transformer and rectifiers in another box in this case.

Marv,

The pics you showed in the thread don't mesh with the one on Eddie's website. What gives? There seems to be half the number of tubes here: http://www.eddiecurrent.com/images/cc3af01d8fe665c4b529c35d98c68e86.jpg . They moved to the power supply box?

NM for the tube count, I can see 8 of them. I am tempted but 8 tubes! Which ones are the better NOS version you're referring to? The big ones in the last amplifier stage I assume? The "preamp" section tubes are less critical? How much would it cost to get a set of good tubes for this amp and is it easily done anyhow? The impressions you posted after the H3 with the positioning vs. T2 and BHSE were based of the new production tubes that Craig had brought right?
