Since many of you guys have somewhat similar tastes to me I'm wondering if there's anything out there that's closed, somewhat isolating, and better sounding than a pair of modded T50RPs which aren't quite up to Paradox level.  I'm having a hard time trying to balance all the variables in my pair and getting kinda frustrated.

I think mostly I'm looking for something that matches good bass extension with a clean CSD and peak-free treble for low listening fatigue.  Is there anything else like that out there worth trying or should I keep plugging away at my T50RPs?

Wow, nothing comes to mind.  Keep modding?  Best bet would be IEMs tbh.

Good question Maverickronin, I find myself in the same spot and would like to hear input on this one.

I could be that I just haven't tried the right ones but IME IEMs don't have enough forward projection for me to use them with movies and games which is probably about half of my intended use since those treble issues bother me just as much for that as well.  I appear to be unusually sensitive to that sort of stuff but my brain can't stand it when my visual and auditory fields don't match up and full sizes just do that better for me.

I can do fine with even my lowly XB700 plus a surround to binaural DSP and it sounds close enough to coming from the screen to not give me issues.  My SE530 gave me the impression of a tiny little stage inside my head which varies between distracting and nauseating.  My PFE232s have more projection, but not enough.  It gives me this weird vertigo-like sensation from time to time when watching TV from a distance, though they usually work fine if I'm at my desk a foot and a half from the monitor.

Are there any IEMs you've tried and can image forward and out of head like that?  I'd prefer universals just for resale value since I don't think many other people have that sort of requirement and even if they do it may vary from person to person.  I might be able to get some customs later this year though.

Honestly, the only thing I can think of that might fit the bill would be a Stax 4070 but that would totally break the bank.

Headphone with good isolation and reasonable FR? I think you are SOL.

Denons have too much edge, Tesla Beyers even more so. The K550 seems to have bits of Tesla disease. Variance, empty cups and stuff.

As for IEMs, the EX1000 is peaky, and the Westone 4 and UM3x don't excel at portraying distance.

Ask Don to bring some Yamahas to your upcoming meet.  Not that isolating, but they don't leak at all.  They of course require just as much work as the T50rp, but it's a different flavor.

I think he said he was bringing a pair or two.  It's the isolation I really need though.  I don't care about sound leaking out.

How about Paradox?  I'm not sure about how LFF does his pads now, but if they are sealed and if he does in fact seal the whole cup shut, they should isolate very well.

I know that depending on the damping used and how the pads are attached, T50rp's can isolate very well.

Being a modder, it's hard to buy someone else's mods though.
