Try the Beyer dt250-250 ohm. Who knows? It might kill the orthos LOL

I went to check out it's numbers on headroom and found a rather interesting testimonial on the sidebar...

Anyway, maybe I should attack this problem from another angle.  Does such a thing a a quiet window A/C unit actually exist?

Damp out chassis noise with acoustic foam? Don't know how you'd deal with the compressor noise though. The central heating system at my house is pretty loud too, I just learn to ignore them...

The chassis' already covered with dynamat to keep it from rattling.  That helped, but not enough.  The fan is almost 60dBC by itself and the fan runs pretty much year round too since all my electronics put out enough heat that I almost don't need central heating.  W/ the compressor it's about 77dBC/58dBA.

One of those split system A/Cs would be nice but I'd probably have to get it professionally installed and it would probably end up costing an awful lot.

Try adding these on top of the dynamat? http://www.foambymail.com/acoustical-pyramid-foam.html

Extra material can go towards a semi-anechoic chamber.

I don't really think that would do too much.  The sound would just come through the grill and the vents and I can't cover those up, or is there something else I'm missing?

I think I'm going to look for quotes on getting a split system installed.

Maybe one of the higher up closed Audio Technicas? The only one I've heard is the W5000 and it had shit for bass, though everything else sounded quite good. The W1000X and the A2000X are said to have better bottom end response. I wouldn't even hazard a guess about the cup resonances though.

Better yet, start saving up for a 4070 :P

I liked the W1000X but it was colored as hell.  Fun and all but I don't really picture using it as a primary.  FWIR the W3000ANV is similar in theme with less smile curve EQ but more refined.

The A2000X seems like too much of a risk when I don't know much about it.  They're not common in the anglosphere, don't often come up for sale used, and when they do it's at a good sized loss from what I'd have to pay to import it.

Aren't all headphones except for the LCD2s and maybe a very few others unicorns LOL. At 50hz though the dt250s aren't the tightest thing in the world but you really just have to hear them against pretty much everything else. If you like magnepan speakers for example, the dt250-250 have a similar tonality to those.

Erm, having lived with quite a few Beyers, and owning two pairs of Magnepan speakers, I'd say if there's a headphone reminiscent of those speakers it's the Fostex T50RP (certainly more so than the HE or Audeze lines IMHO), and the Beyers, much as I like them, are nothing like it. I know you are referring about 50 Hertz specifically, but the characteristics of a planar are different.
