Welcome, saw your post on IF and love your laid back attitude and share your thoughts on the issue with the current TOTL crop of headphones.

Hello, I am Eric, otherwise known as violeta88 on Head-Fi and here, and I joined this forum after finding out about it on Innerfidelity and after reading the Manifesto and looking at the forums a bit (especially the entirety of this thread), I figured I would join, as while I have been a member of Head-Fi since 2001, and in my younger years on Head-Fi succumbed to the FOTM and fanboy nonsense, many things have since changed in my perspectives on audio, and much of my silence on Head-Fi in later years has been due to my lack of enthusiasm for what that forum has become.  Like many of you, I am relatively laid back, and find value in objectivity and subjectivity in audio because I am in the hobby for my love of music and enjoy hearing my music collection clearly as possible, not simply for the countless collection of overpriced ear bling.

I have owned many pairs of headphones in the past, and most of my collection today is what remains from the rejected piles of overpriced garbage I have owned over the years.  My main headphones are the AKG K701 with SAA Equinox K701 Cable, Sennheiser HD580 with HD600 grilles, and the Sennheiser HD598.  My portable headphones are the Beyerdynamic DT1350 (which have always struck me as sounding a bit odd, now I know why), and my IEM collection consists of the Ultimate Ears UE200, and the Etymotic MC5)  Headphone amps:  (in the order of functional condition):  Meier Audio Corda Arietta for the home headphone amp,  a partially functional Corda Stepdance (does not work in high current consumption mode) and a Corda Move being held together by tape, and for transportable amp a JMT built DIY MINT amplifier in a case that dwarfs the amp board (functions on 2X9V power but has RCA input and 1/4" out).  I also have an Apogee Duet 2 as a DAC/preamp for my Focal CMS 40 studio monitors (via balanced line outs) and as a preamp for my N.E.W. A-20.1 power amp (via the headphone jack) that power my KEF iQ10 Speakers.

In terms of occupation, I am currently a grad student in a master's degree program for communication studies at Eastern Washington University, before that I received a bachelor's degree in economics with a minor in visual communication design at the same university.  My undergraduate coursework before economics and visual communication design included a computer science class, a basic analog circuits course, three philosophy classes, two sociology classes, and many other classes I can't remember off the top of my head.

In other words, my thought patterns are influenced by many perspectives and by many disciplines, so it is a miracle that I actually sound like one person when writing down my thoughts.  As an example, recently I wrote a paper for a feminist theory class using sources from feminist theorists, end-of-year SEC filings, a couple of opamp spec sheets, and a disassembled Apogee Duet 2.  And people wonder why I am not like everyone else.

Anyway, I am looking forward to at the minimum lurking around on the forums, and interjecting when I feel I can make a contribution of significance to the process of calmly learning more about the fine hobby of ours, and the nuances to be found in the intersection of subjectivity and objectivity in audio.  If that makes me a pirate of sorts, I am all for it, just don't make me wear a pirate costume... :-DD

Thanks!  It is good to find an audio community that is comparatively tranquil, and that one that a person can look forward to reading, instead of preparing for a full blown assault on one's IQ level and/or mental health, as in other places one can go on the internet to talk about audio that shall remain nameless...

I am obviously new here, and before we start making assumptions... I was brought here by an article written by Tyll Hertsons, the measuring god of headphones!

I'm looking forward to teaching myself more about headphones. Being in college, I really like to show people things and 'advise' them on computer and portable audio purchases. Hopefully this forum will help me do that, and be a good resource to send people to.

I use Ubuntu Linux as my main operating system, after having tried Fedora, Debian, Arch (very briefly, got a GUI, but not much else,) and Ubuntu Mint.

If anyone goes to BYU Idaho, give a shout out! I'd love to hear from/connect with you. (...and obviously, that increases my chances of being LDS ((Mormon)) to 99%... No, I do not like Mitt Romney or Obama.)
