Agreed, if I upgrade value for money is very important.

Being able to audition the product also helps...

Greetings! I'm new here. I've been lurking on Head Fi for close to a year now, and I just recently discovered this place. I'm totally new to this hobby so unfortunately I probably don't have much to contribute. I joined this forum because I really appreciate all the "incisive" commentary the regulars of this forum provided on Head Fi. Really appreciate all the knowledge you guys have shared.

Nice to hear the commentary doesn't fall on deaf ears.  Welcome aboard.

Should have done this much earlier, I've registered for a few months and lurked all the time. Apologies.

I really enjoy reading about Headphones and learning about them, so I came here to learn more. Lots of insightful posts here, I get tired of the endless praises on Head-Fi on every product. Though I don't have much to contribute as I feel quite clueless most of the time.

Time to delurk and introduce myself.  I'm Ham Sandwich on HF and SH, and Hammy less formally.  I've been to a few Portland and Seattle head-fi meets.  Sachu knows who I am.  Love the graphs and measurements.  Very helpful in helping me understand what's going on with certain headphones.

So you are? I was just thinking Hammy = Hamsan...

Welcome and enjoy the voyage.

I decided to take a gander after reading the article on Tyll's Innerfidelity site. I immediately liked the attitude displayed on this forum because I get a sense that people here don't take themselves too seriously and don't seem to be interested in acting like know-it-alls by using the latest in headphone-related vernacular with their 1000-word reviews of every scrap of gear that falls into their mitts (at least not nearly as often as I see this on head-fi) and also don't seem too eager to suck up to the manufacturers with the hopes of getting free gear, either. Maybe I'm an asshole for saying this, and I may be completely wrong, too, but a lot of people on head-fi seem to be clamoring to be deemed the "next reviewer who gets all sorts of free shit sent to them to review." The salty language is nice, too.

Yup, Tyll seems to be blowing this forum up.

Me? I'm a newbie by hi-fi standards. Started out almost two years ago with a Grado SR80i. Then I started to feel like my headphones are dictating my taste of music and switched to HD25-II. On the way bought the FiiO E10 because my laptop headphone out was too hissy. Fast forward to now...

I see two large PCB's in front of me and a smaller stack-o-pcb's. A Sigma22 powered Dynalo with a 128 step Joshua Tree attenuator that I bought defective for 60$ and fixed by myself. And yeah- all that goes to a HD650 I discovered anew when properly amped.

Outside this madness I'm a proud citizen of Latvia who plans to finish his philosophy Masters next year. Astonishingly enough I am employed.

Recognize the name from HC.  Welcome - you'll find a fair dollop of philosophy on the discussion board and shoutbox.

Nice to have you aboard.

I'm a professor of philosophy and ancient lit, myself. Or at least that's what my official job description is.
