When wearing LCD-3's there is no need to wear a helmet as the protective FOTM force field around them will guard you from all possible damage.

 :)p13

Just wrap them up in a turban made out of toilet paper.

And if you do happen to sustain brain damage anyway, the upshot is that you wont feel quite so bad about paying $2k for such a POS.

ahoy  I guess we just hear things differently. I may walk the plank around here for saying it, but I like 'em. Regardless, it's nice to see you and a lot of familiar folks here.

I mean, what rock have I been under not to have been here already. I'm actually very excited to see this place, what a great resource. In terms of uncovering WTF is going on in headphones, Head-Fi is like the old joke about the guy who digs through a barn full of manure to find the pony. It serves a good purpose, but damn it's got a lot of noise. And Head-Case is a gentlemen's club and really doesn't talk to much about headphones. Here there's really good density of formed opinion and solid evidence about headphones.  Very cool.

I'll be around, that's for sure.  Lemme know if I can help.

I like the balance of the LCD2r2 better than the LCD3. The LCD3 is too expensive. It was nice of Audeze to make special "unveiled" versions for a few of us.

Nice to see you too, Tyll.  :)p5

I thought my LCD-3 sounded marginally better than my LCD-2 rev. 1, which I do enjoy, but given the doubling of price I found it to be quite underwhelming. When Marv reported on his "super LCD-3" it convinced me to send mine back to Audez'e for servicing. They sounded clearer and more open compared to their former state, but still fell short of what Marv and a few others seemed to be experiencing, so I decided to move on rather than continue wrangling for a better set. I've since heard another pair which was definitely closer to what Marv described compared to my own set.

I mostly talk about music there. Weird.

My super edition lasted less than 24 hours. The replacement was not as good, so I sold it. It actually seemed to sound more veiled over time and rather quickly too.

I measured five of the latest pairs before I did my review. (One from Audeze, and one from HeadRoom and three fromTTVJ.) They were all pretty similar.

For us enthusiasts it's a moving target, and it's awful hard to figure out how well they're (all manufacturers) moving along towards manufacturing quality and repeatability.

The $2000 price tag is troubling, but such is the world of high end audio AND the nature of headphone market pricing at the moment.

There aren't many other headphones I'd rather listen to ... JH13?  A good HD600 rig? SR-009 of course, but I could NEVER afford it personally.

Certainly the LCD3 weight and price are the drawbacks for me.

And that's exactly why it's Walking' the Plank.

Yeah - been too busy. Should be fixed now. I think I need to fix my sig at HF too.

Hello all.

I've been lurking here for awhile now. Cannot remember exactly how I found my way here. Might've been when trying to google "headphone measurements".

Excellent site! High praises for Purrin for originating the trend of further measurements. Details are in the suck up posts found in this thread and I agree with and relate to every one of them!  :)p17

What made me register? More information of course! Can't miss out on the stuff that must go on around here. Also, those Stratokossters, daym! I've never modified headphones further than applying toilet paper to a pair of LCD2r1's or adding another layer of cloth to some others. Recently having ordered a Mad Dog, it piques my interest and have even been planning a small workstation with tools to my little flat, only for headphone modification purposes.
Another good reason for registering was the new HD25 add. Moar pls. I like it laid back, I mean... The atmosphere here is great!

Some people might recognize my username from HF. I'm a music enthusiast with some, actually fairly little, musical education and as many might interpret as majorly provocatively unique requirements/preferences from music reproduction. After all, not really. As the rest here, I seek the ultimate goal of flawless reproduction of music, if it will ever exist. I also acknowledge that each of us are more sensitive to different areas of such issues and prioritize differently, as we have to with different kinds of shortcomings. I'm happy to have read that this site allows that.
While I am as fed up with all of the overly pseudo claims happening at HF, I personally have to prematurely yield and succumb to only be able to provide this fine community with "subjective observations" (the horror!) of the gear at hand, if even that. However contradictory the spewed material (eww!) might be, I always seek comprehension of my findings on a more objective level.

I hope I'm adequately introduced and won't have to tread the flexy wooden thing... Another thing to note is that my native language is something else besides English. So if I seem rude, which I avoid to do, it might be exactly the reason. All the cultural cues and paradigms in wording, not to mention axioms, are not my strongest suit.

Yarr!

Excellent post, electropop!

Nothing wrong with subjective observations. Most of us see objective measurements as a communication tool for subjective experience. Plus, aren't we all in this hobby for the subjective experience that great audio brings us?
