Hi all  :)p3 s.

Been a member at HF for maybe 4 or 5 years, but don't post too much there. Have been lurking here for a bit since Tyll first mentioned the site and decided to join when registration opened up last month as a nice alternative to the other site (and hopefully better signal-to-noise ratio).

Up until my child was born I was really a stereo guy and honestly didn't know there were good headphones.  Cans were a cheap something that attached to a Walkman device, then later an Ipod, then later again an Iphone or a crappy at-home listening experience through $20 over-ears. In that respect, I do credit HF with opening my eyes and ears.  In 2012, I started going to stereo shows and head meets in the area and have been fortunate to hear a lot of great cans on great setups. Looking to upgrade my own modest setup at the moment.  Got a ridiculously sweet deal on some speakers recently (which I basically never get to listen to anyway), so those funds marked for a speaker upgrade can now be allocated to more head-gear.

Still love my AKG Q701s, but thinking about stepping up a bit, maybe to ortho-land as a nice alternative.

I hope to learn a bit here and hopefully can contribute meaningfully once in a while.

Hi Colgin. I've read a few of your posts on HF. Welcome. I guess you didn't jump in yet on the PM-2?

Thanks for the welcome and no I did not buy the PM-2 (yet?). I actually was hoping to get some further input here before pulling the trigger on anything (although my finger is getting very itchy). I will post some further thoughts and questions in the general recommendations thread later because that is probably the better place for it, but among orthos I am trying to decide among the HE-560, the LCD-2(Fazor) and the Oppo PM-2, which are all in a similar price bracket.

Also, I am tempted to grab a new HD-600 while the ever fluctuating price is relatively low at the moment (although it is not too difficult to go used on that at a pretty fair price). But as Much as I like the HD-600 I don't think it will satisfy my itch for one of the orthos named above.

I suppose we could bill this is the first Changstar India meet! Even though it is sans headphones and just for a cup of tea.
Ok, we need to rectify this. I'm almost done with the remodeling and am getting a 3KVA UPS and step down transformer made. Then I can use all the electronics I want to.

It has to be good to meet people without headphones and electronics getting in the way of that old-fashioned thing conversation. OK, we stopped talking to eat sometimes, but the conversation was good. Very good. Just amazing how close our thinking is on a lot of musical issues!

I'm a bit impatient to try HD800, because I want to know whether I should splash if/when our national on-line shopping portal has a ridiculous offer. Otherwise, I am always happy  just to talk.

Should I let on that you look just like your avatar? Excepting the hair, of course, which is artificial and stuck to edges of the pirate hat  :)p13

Nick:
That was a rapier thrust at the end :)p3. Yeah, it was good to eat and talk without the electronic encumbrances for a change. Unfortunately the restaurant did not have tea. On musical tastes, I am so happy to meet a kindred soul. Just don't have the time, space and interest for anything other than old fashioned rock and roll.

I'll set something up in my office with some tube amps, like the Vali, BH Crack and my ZD that Purrin absolutely loves :P. you can listen to the 800 then.

Cheers

Rapier thrust? I'm just appreciating how much more creative this is compared to wearing a wig  p;)

Hi Everyone,

Heard this is a cool place to talk about headphones.

Landed on HF in 2006, got my first headphones (HD555s) in 2007, modded them into HD595s. Completed a woody T50RP mod, got some DT990s, upgraded to HE-500s... you know how it goes.

Glad to be a Swabbie, thanks to LFF for helping me register!

Hi Will. Glad you are aboard.

We're having growing pains. A few weeks ago the registration was broken (upgraded server, bandwidth, and all). LOL, it could still  be broken.

For the others here, Will is from Massdrop. A few of the mateys here have met and spoken to him in person in the Bay Area and SoCal meets. He an enthusiast just like us. I also believe we'll be having an ambassador from Massdrop letting us know about good deals (which I always seem to miss) or maybe offering a few items now and then on the CS loaner program.
