So new members know, the smite thing is kind of a joke not to be taken seriously. Sometimes we smite each other just for the fun of it.

We like to smite folks who like Ultrasones too.

hey all, cheeq here from down in the land of oz.

for the next few years i'll be doing the dirty jobs around the hospital and trying not to get people killed. i got here, like many, from innerfidelity. i like a neutral sound with maybe a hint of mid range forwardness. i'm confused by the high end audiotechnica IEM's with their ?bright trebly nature, also by expensive full sized headphones that have too much bass. i've not progressed passed the senn 600/650's in the audiophile world and am still using a 2stepdance as my primary amp. i'm here to find out what more experienced ears have to say about different things on the market and avoid the FOTM because i'm a stinge.

that being said, i've recently joined the buying and selling merry-go-round, so i might try a FOTM as long as i can offload it if its no good.

finally i'm trying to re-learn to enjoy the music instead of the equipment after jumping into this hobby a few years ago, with only moderate success.

Hello everyone,
I am Abhishek from India. Working as a unix account admin for last 3 years.
Got into this hobby when i first heard the Sony MDR EX70 during college days. Before that i heard best was the apple earbuds.
Had never seen an iem before so with EX70 went on to search more about it. Soon realized these were considered crappy.
Read about shures. Collected funds , bunked college to go to Indian Capital "New Delhi" to purchase SE210
& with this began the endless journey.
Began with mp3 players....lots of them....felt music is not just about Bass & Volume.
In quest of a grand sounding experience switched from earphones to headphones.
Started with Shure SRH750. Really liked those.
Upgraded to Vmoda V80 per hype-fi madness. Thought these were sponsored. Hated them.

Then got in touch with Gurubhai, heard the vintage orthos & LCD2.
The shure bass that i liked most started to feel like distortion in comparison.
All credit goes to his modded Yamaha HP50 for keeping alive my headphone hobby.
Recently got hit badly with a Hifiman HE400 that in all honesty is a poor ortho headphone.

But then was cheered up by Gurubhai's modded HP1. If someone wants to know how vocal range would sound if there was absolutely no bass & treble, this HP1 should be heard. That does not mean it lacks bass & treble but the mid range is really highlighted. One may argue it be a bit shouty but then vocals if heard in person without instruments are never warm.

Long live the Yamaha goodness.......

Mine aren't quite the same but I get your point. Most vintage orthos are usually under-damped, have poor FR extension & dull transients. The stock Yamaha YH-100 is un-listenable, HP-1 is only average at best, HP50 have too much variance but if one is willing to get their hands dirty & dig deep, there are pleasures waiting which are worth all the trouble.
