I heard the AT ATH A2000X the other day and they were close to what you are saying. However they weren't bass light... they were bass nonexistent, but i think that was to do with the fact i couldn't get that stupid head band to keep the earpads in a place that provided a good seal, but i have a weird head :P if you can try them or the ath a1000 they may suit you a little. Not sure how they measure, but i liked the mids and treble.

yeah I did look at these for some time but having tried the ATH-A900X, they were too heavy for the wing system and the pads were pleather so it got a bit warm and uncomfortable because of those two factors. and they are unfortunately dealbreakers in my case.  :(

thanks!

hey there. been in the hobby for a pretty long time now I'd say, but haven't really been happy with any setup I've owned... though I suppose everyone always wants upgrades in this hobby. p;)
I'm Swedish but got exported to Canada for some strange reasons.
anyhow, I ended up here due to me looking for measurements for some headphones that I don't even remember which ones that was, and that due to being on the hunt for some closed headphones that don't have leather/pleather pads as I can't stand using that for longer listening sessions.
I tend to like bass tame headphones to neutral ones, with midrange to upper midrange emphasis I think.
and I've pretty much come to the conclusion that this doesn't exist!
please prove me wrong as I'm getting desperate. tried a lot of phones but none sound right to me so far.
so much easier with open back headphones.  :)p14

anyhow, I'll be hanging around here for when I've got a place to have open headphones and a bit better budget.

currently only have audio technica ATH-CK100, would love to see measurements of these - I don't even know what sounds good anymore!
also building an M^3 with Sigma11, pairing with an ODAC.
and looking for a semi-portable DAC/amp combo to use with an iPad and laptop, was hoping the Leckerton UHA-6s mkII with Camera Connection Kit adapter would work but I haven't been able to find any information for that.

previously owned pretty much all the newer sennheiser HD5/6-series, AKG K601/K701, hifiman he-4, denon d5000, audio technica ath-esw9/esw10jpn, lots of IEMs... more headphones... too many to remember. just to give a frame of reference or something.
heard a lot more than I've owned though, so there is a bit more to compare to.

a bit strange introduction, not sure what to write. 5AM and pretty tired and stuff.
but the above is pretty much what lead me to this place. I tend to find that measurements do translate to what I have heard in the past, this site seems cool.

so... Hi!

AHOY! cd900st? haha

cool don, what were you using as a source?

I may have been using a standard pioneer dvd player and a MHDT Labs Havana NOS DAC at the time. I'm not 100% sure. The stax may have been before I got a Havana though.

munch,
my preferred combo these days is a M3/BM DAC1 pairing via the AT AD2000 and modded Fostex T50RP.  works well with the K70x as well with apropos opamps.  if you have any DIY questions, don't hesitate to post a thread query or PM me.

quadpatch,
nice blog.

Dyaems: that looks like pleather to me, though I will read about them and see. have not heard many sony headphones, but they seem to have a bad rep here.

fishski13: that's cool! I'm curious about the modded T50rp. I heard the LFF Paradox ones at a meet and they were simply stunning. did in no way sound like a closed headphone.
I'm not decided at all on open headphones but I'm kind of leaning towards orthos, if I can get used to the bass quantity. I had the ATH-AD900 for a while, and kind of liked those. but the comfort was an issue as the driver cloth touched my ears :(
much appreciated about the DIY part - currently all I need to do is mount the power out and the boards to the case, and get some feet for it. kind of excited, but I don't have any cans to try it with. :D

thanks!

reputation or brand name is no concern here since you were looking for a specific sound signature :P

well no I just want a good sounding neutral-ish closed headphone (not V/U-shaped frequency curve) that is comfortable for longer use. :p
so I dunno, I'll read about them. just the little I've read about the sony studio line hasn't been too promising. just wanted to know a bit more about the cd900st, if you have some thoughts/info to share :)

Hello, firev1 from Head-Fi, on the journey for the next better headphone, currently aiming for something around the HD650 and other equivalents range. Also looking at a Centrance M8 as I'm a fan of their pro products.

I talked to someone before about the cd900st and while the prices in Japan are great for the cd900st, prices outside are pretty bad. Its sound can be somewhat unpredictable, the guy had a couple of cd900sts and they sounded different to him. Driver matching?

Hello All!

I'm a sound engineer, singer, musician and a student of Musicology (!?). I'm typing from Italy (AKA 3rd world of europe...)

I've always listened with headphones since I was 10 'cause my two sisters and mother didn't like Pink Floyd and stuff... those were walkman days...
Repaired, modded and broken several crappy HP for years untill I bought my first costy (for the time) HP: Koss The Plug! Modded it to tame the thunders in a time when there was no internet where I lived (!)... What a joy when I discovered headwize years later :-)
Anyway... fast forward: some years ago I bought an ATH-W5000 bamboozled by head-fi (was almost buying HD650... go figure). I sold It as soon as I verified I was not deaf... there were no measurements on the net for that model so it was a blind buy based on crappy subjective words... LONG LIVE TO EVERYONE WHO MEASURE!!!

ATM I live happy with Ety ER4S/P (frost tip), Rockboxed iRiver H140 and Leckerton UHA-6S.
But... upgraditis and pain in ear canals led me to look for something not IEM for home use. Tried DT880pro: nice but too sharp in the highs and too inconsistent in the bass... aaaaand I don't like open design... call me fool... I hate to hear my room noise floor over the room of the recording... I don't live in a recoding studio, so... sent back for refund.
Tried Denon AH-D2000. Nice... not perfect but I'm using it... at least are not painful and isolate a bit... still looking for something better that doesn't cost an arm and a leg...

I took also ATH M50 (good for tracking), Creative Aurvana Live (for my GF), KSC75 (for jogging)...
Ah! tried also MDR 7506 (excellent torture device...), and RE0 (meh...), K340 (broken my neck...)

Arrr to all!  :)p4

Me go back to read some moar...  popcorn

Keep going with the good work!  :)p7

Hi!
Some of you know me from "the other place", and eventually "the other place". Nice finding wonderful plots and interesting people with worthy opinions. Cheers!
