Zu viel ist zu viel. Die Höhen sind vielleicht schön aber das Mittel und darunter sind auch wichtig.

Und jetzt zurück nach Englisch. All this German is too amped right now...

Get your shameless Gustard fanboyism out of the Violectric thread!  :P

I would agree that the Violectric amps are dull and lifeless, as others have said. Smooth and forgiving would be the best that I can say about them. I had understood that they are neutral which appealed to me, so I picked on up in trade. It was not neutral, but rather ridiculously dark like your two year old was playing with the switches on your EQ. The lyr 2 walked all over the Violectric at half the money. Hell, the Asgard 2 spanks the Violectric for that matter.

I've had the 281 for a while now and have enjoyed it quite a bit.  The XLR out to my ear is a lot more enjoyable than the single ended out which is more flat/thick in comparison.  For me, part of the charm to the amp is it's size, for what it does it isn't huge and only weighs like 13 LBS, so I can travel with it easily.  I know that not important to most people since it will just sit on a desk.

I have noticed DAC pairing with it is quite important, as my EAD DSP 7000 sounds the best with it, better than my Progeny and I even prefer it over the Theta Gen V at times.

I haven't heard any of the other models, but I do love the 281 for what it does, and despite the weird db switches in the back, it turns it into a very versatile piece of gear.

Lol, I almost did 3 pages ago.

The H10 is a clone of the V200, for those who don't know, that sells for ~1/3rd the price of the Violectric. Normally I'd say it's your choice whether you get the genuine article or not but the Gustard actually has a significantly better PSU than the V200 (independent PSUs for each channel) and as such actually offers superior performance.

So there's not much of a point in getting the genuine article, in this case. And since the V281 isn't much better than the V200, it kind of makes the entire lineup less than desirable based on the cheaper, better options available.

H10 is a Chinese clone? That is really detestable. For the record, I didn't care for the H10.

I find it more detestable that the genuine article goes for a price it obviously doesn't deserve.

But I guess I'm not the one having my shit stolen.

V281 is actually much better than the V200. Doesn't have it's lack of detail, small soundstage and deadened sound at all. The path they're going is at least in the righter direction.  :wheel:
