1) Yamaha Orthos(HP1>/=YH100/YHD-1 > HP50 > HP2/YH-2/YHE50)
2) Fostex T30/ modded RP18
3) Rotel back-electret
4)PMB-80
5)LCD2r1 modded

They all sound great with vocals & apart from the first tier yamaha orthos, the differences are pretty minor.
PMB-80 is the one which could have give serious competition to yammies but I never got around to fixing its issues.

Westone ES5; mids and vocals are pure sex.
____________

Surprising honorable mention to modded HD800.  Smooth, clear, detailed, liquid yet textured.  Audezes pale by comparison for vocals and mids are overrated.

1. 240DF

2. Stax/SA5000

3. 240 sextetts LP

4.Fostex T50rp

5. ?????

i haven't heard much headphones really so only listing what i heard or have. reason i listed fostex last cause i can't remember how they sound exactly. only thing i remember is their clarity and they were nice sounding and close to my DF's(what i used to tune the fostex besides my speakers. weren't exact but was close enough where i enjoyed it). i heard a modded yamaha hp-1(by scompton) in the past but don't remember how it sounds either.

I forgot about the RP18's!  Yes.  And I think some other Fostex orthos are better than the Sextetts.  I'll revise mine then

Yamaha Orthos
NAD RP18
Stax (007 and the 507, not the cheaper stuff, which is a bit thin in the vocal range)
Fostex T50rp (modded)
LCD-2rev2 (good iteration, most pairs wouldn't make the list)

Stock or Modded T50RP?

With certain mods.  With most modifications ime, the midrange isn't that great.  I wouldn't own or listen to a stock T50rp.  Sounds like an echoey mess.

^^ I just gotten a stock pair of T50rp in the mail. They were on my head for no more than 40 minutes. I had forgotten how bad they sound because my original pair was in pieces...
