Senn HD800. How are they supposed to fit?
« on: February 05, 2015, 12:40:10 AM »

I have always wanted to own the HD800 but there is just one thing stopping me from pulling the trigger. The fit. I have a really small head and even on the smallest setting, the HD800 feels loose and doesn't clamp over my ears. The HD600/650 clamp nicely and are very comfortable for me. I'm worried that if I bought the HD800 I wouldn't be getting the most out of them due to poor fit. I also worry that I would have to keep messing with them every time I move.

What do you guys think? Are they supposed to be loose? Would I be doing them a disservice?

The hd800 fits much looser than the hd6x0. Don't worry it's fine and isn't necessary for it to sound it's best. For head banging, put the 600/650 back on!!

Try putting on some weight. Let those cheekbones fill out. It's worth it.

I really like the HD800's, I suggest a daily regimen of 20-40 iu's of human growth hormone, within a year or so you should start seeing some nice cranium enlargement at which time you should get a nice fit.    walk the plank

We should trade heads. Mine makes almost every headphone feel too tight.

Or maybe pin some synthol into my temples?

Increase your HGH with fermented Glutamine.

High frequencies bothering you on an otherwise wonderful headphone?  Get some extra hair grafted all around your ears to absorb unwanted reflections.  Want a little extra soundstage depth?  Inject silicon around your ears in a ring pattern matching the diameter of you ear pads to increase the distance of the drivers to your ears.

I think this could be a trend.  Why mod you headphones when you can mod your anatomy?  I think we've been concentrating on the wrong mods all along.

I like to wear my HD800 forward on my head. Meaning the ear is almost tucked in the the rear of the ear cup, which the HD800 does have some clearance for unlike other headphones.

Wearing it like this also seems to yield the best seal. The seal can be broken if you wear it too far back because of the jawbone. I like the pad to sit just around the jawbone. HD800's fit is touch and go. I also prefer the sound of the HD800 with short hair. If your hair gets thick/curly you want to keep it trimmed. But I also feel that a light beard (rather than no beard) is necessary for best experience. You might simply not be man enough for the HD800 (only half joking here)
