yesssssss, I finally got them! Technics sb7000a!
« on: October 19, 2014, 05:52:51 PM »

Yup as title says I finally got them. I cant tell you how long I been looking for these and wanting these. The guy I got them off recaps, refoam, and fixes gear so the speakers were already top condition. Only wear on them is little knick on back lower corner but all drivers work perfectly.  Even the tweeters. First thing I notice is how clear they are and the openness in the stereo imaging with precision. They sound very resolving as well. I love the midrange on them. Reminds me of a good planer headphone in midrange transparency. The highs sound pleasant and extend well. The bass is punchy and super clean. Take in mind this is just having 20 minutes with them as im out as of now writing this. Will try to post pics later if I can. I love them though and are everything I hoped for. Just very happy my search is over with speakers...for now :)

Thanks. The drivers are like odd ball size (another reason why pain if have to find driver replacement). Woofer is like 13", midrange 4.75", dome tweeter 1.25". Right now just using my onkyo tx-sr602 receiver.

They are very effortless and can hear everything with no straining in the stereo imaging. Also it seems to have very good crossover cause I never heard drivers blend together so seamlessly.  The cabs are heavy and well built and treated.even though it is ported design I haven't heard any hint of port noise.  They seem like a well built closed cab. Take in mind too the guy that worked with me and sold to me had them for long time and even worked on them. Even kept the tweeters in good working order. I say it's one heck of deal for 150 I paid. I think I did really good especially since my last pair of speakers were almost twice as much and I think these out perform them in terms of stereo imaging precision, clarity, and in resolution. There resolving ability and refinement reminds me of the lambda pros in a way, like good electrostatic.

The price I paid for the is same price you end up paying for pair working tweeters for this model. That's how ridiculous the prices for these speakers are. I think it was luck and patience once again.

Sorry couldn't take better photos here. Just been using phone. And only way I was able to tether the phone is using vpn like cyberghost cause I am not paying the phone company money for a feature a phone already has for their stupid pricey hotspot crap. Cyberghost stopped working though and says possible isp provider in this country blah blah blah has blocked cyberghost.  That's only way I been using my computer online.

Anyhoo, I know there is not much known bout these speakers especially since they're technics.  This model wasn't marked much in the us and were like 450 a piece back in the 70's. They use cloth on the woofer and midrange with rubber surrounds. Supposedly cloth was used lot for professional drivers. The soft dome tweeter is made with some weird material and even has a surround around as well unusually with what technics claims uses extremely powerful square ferrite magnet.  I don't see how people blow these tweeters easily.  I read though they're usually just dislodge from the magnet and needs realignment.

Overall I think they very good and other few who actually owned working pair with original drivers do too and compared to very high end model speakers. I love how they're design as well with separate cabs for each driver instead of just one big box with drivers all cramped in at once. Technics has made some gems but of course most of those were marketed overseas mostly while Panasonic sold mostly box set crap in the US. That's  why speakers like the 7000A is overlooked. Technics even made professional speakers like the sb-10 which uses their specialized leaf tweeter which was accidentally marketed as an electrostatic tweeter but their leaf tweeter is basically similar to a ribbon tweeter. But, yea, anyhoo, technics made good speakers and again apologize for horrible presentation here. Im horrible with phones and using a decent phone only makes it harder.

There is something great going on with the cloth/paper bass drivers. A friend of mine had concert speakers, i guess from 80's that had 15'' cloth bass driver. Epic slamm, sharp and powerful. Somehow modern composite elements don't do that so well.

That looks awesome. Now you know why I like big woofers. It's that "effortless" thing.
