There is something great going on with the cloth/paper bass drivers. A friend of mine had concert speakers, i guess from 80's that had 15'' cloth bass driver. Epic slamm, sharp and powerful. Somehow modern composite elements don't do that so well.

Yea, I like the use of cloth. Last speakers I had with cloth drivers was the pioneer cs77a I believe it was. They were very pretty to look at but sound was decent due to midrange sounding bit hollow. The 12" cloth woofers was amazing though cause punchy they were and had good quick slam. The pioneers used cloth surrounds too but I think it limited it's excursion while the technics 13" woofer is cloth with what seems to be rubber surrounds for higher excursion but never tested it's limits yet but can say I don't need my subwoofer no more since the woofers in the technics seem to extend as low but sounds lot more clear and clean.

Your friend probably used some form of altec lansings maybe. Atlec lansing made a lot of huge heavy speakers.  Altec lansing was known for their speakers during the 70's and 80's.

Dude! My girlfriend's dad has some of these he was trying to get rid of at our garage sale. No one bit, though. They definitely need newfoam butttt if someone wants em holla!

Foam? Only part of speakers has foam is the opencell foam it used for underneath the tweeter and midrange to help with reflections off the cabinets to clean up the frequency response a bit. They do sound good without the foam. I used temporary closedcell craft foam I had leftover underneath just sitting there and does help clean it up bit and sound bit more focused but plan on getting some opencell foam from foamfactory very soon.

That looks awesome. Now you know why I like big woofers. It's that "effortless" thing.

Thanks! I was just glad I found them finally and in good working prestige condition. The guy was awesome too. Never in my time using craigslist never met someone as cool and patient as this guy who sold them to me was. Defiantly working with that guy again next time if I end up buying something else.

Couple more pics. Photos probably gonna end upside down or something haha. But yea the switchers on the back all it basically does lowers the output for the tweeter and midrange.  I don't find it necessary and keep it at 1 (normal). The foam is temporary.  All I did cut some quick pieces and placed underneath till I get proper opencell foam. Probably just gonna get some air conditioning opencell foam or online at the foam factory.

I take more pics laters with it's cloth covers on but getting some actual down time with these, these things sound beautiful. Never heard voices and music rendered so amazingly. Even purcussions and snares sound so clean and natural to me even with my so not perfect room.depends on source lot though. Good source and recording they sound best other times can so pretty good but doesn't bother me too much since lot music I listen to of all kinds are not perfect itself so it's expected.

I think I found endgame speakers.  Im still curious bout some speakers but I think be extremely hard to find replacement speakers cause I like these a lot. Not bright, dark or nothing. Just right.

This would not be a proper Rex thread if the pictures weren't sideways and upside down.

Congrats on the score, Rex!

I did spend some time wondering about the ceiling-hight installation. Some people like their speakers like that!

Then I noticed that a whole lot of other stuff was attached to the ceiling too. That seemed odd, so I started to think about it...

Very nice find and AWESOME deal.

I have been curious about these for a long time. Never found a set locally but I have always been happy with the output of my JBL 4311's. I have too many speakers.

Thanks!

If you ever around nj should hit me up. Glad to give an audition.

I always been curious about the jbl's besides the Yamaha ns10m/ns1000m. These were the only technics I was so fascinated with when I first got back into audio seriously in my late teens for music and some occasional studio use. I found good amount jbl 4312b's and L100's but people were asking too high of price for them and were way out what could afford at the time. Atleast I finally found the technics cause  I really like them. Im still gonna keep an eye out for pair of jbl's to atleast try to audition them see what they sound like.
