By the way, I just bought a pair of AKG K240 Studios and they sound pretty darn great out of the Vali. No bass bloat like I had before. Maybe that could have been due to my previous amp not able to handle the impedance peak in the bass region.

55 Ohms, removable cable and interchangeable ear pads/cushions?

Unless something changes by tomorrow looks like the top 7 will be:

M50x
HD558
8323
HM5
SR80e
AD700x
K240S

I'd be really happy with that myself. Should be a very interesting comparo

In that case, I'll make a final pitch to get out the vote for KNS8400:

It deserves more attention because there are just so few broadly neutral (or at least not bass-boosted) cheap portables. It's also a surprising phone because it's reminiscent of K70x in several ways--resolution, coolness, crispness.

I liked the KRKs a whole lot but overall chose the SRH940s over them... Similar in their "dry-ness" though, Shure's were just more comfy.

So, the final list seems : M50X, HD-558, 8323, HM5, SR80e, AD700X. K240S

For me, AD700X and K240S are pretty much only things I am interested in (and maybe HM5)

To be honest, M50X isn't that good headphones IMHO.
