Had to vote for the beyer dt440.  Iirc that's the one that's always hyped up as the most natural headphone in existence on head-fi.

That might be DT660. All the new classical guys fall for it because of David Solomon's review. Another so-called giant killer.

I voted for the following headphones. I did not change my vote.
HD558
M50X
K240S
HD681 EVO
Takstar Pro 80
Monoprice 8323

If I had no headphones and a tight budget, these would definitely be on my short list. Add the PX200 II, Portapro and KSC75 and I would be informed enough to try out some headphones.

Ah... the AKG K-240S was my first "serious" headphone! Fun times with Cowon S9 and IBasso D10  :)p1

I still have the 240S, but they are in France. I could bring them back with me after Xmas, if nothing started at this time.

I believe I still have a pair of HD558s lying around.  if you want them you can have them for free, my only request is you take my HD280s off my hands too.  Let me know and they're yours, Marv.

Would you say that the K240s or the HD558 is an real upgrade to the HD 681 Evo?

Depends on what you want. If you have little money and you want a "good" headphone, you just buy what you think is the most value for money. On a tight budget big upgrades happen less than side-grades. Value for money, that is all that matters...

No modded units.

In the case of ProDJ100 (if it makes the cut), it makes sense to use M50 pads because everyone does--or at least no one should use the stock pads. I have a new set somewhere here; they're yours if you want them for the shoot out.

By the way, I just bought a pair of AKG K240 Studios and they sound pretty darn great out of the Vali. No bass bloat like I had before. Maybe that could have been due to my previous amp not able to handle the impedance peak in the bass region.

A couple more eliminated. Re-vote if you want.
