I'm leaning towards M50, SR80, HM5.
I'm not... the former two are just boring retweaks of existing models. The AD700X and K240S are far more interesting for me.

If the comparison's for the sake of general knowledge, then M50 is a prime choice.  M50's likely to be the headphone everybody has had experience with.

But there are already plenty of resources available for the M50. The K240S doesn't even have plots on Golden Ears, let alone an actually reputable/trustable measurement source like IF.

Sweet.

M50x definitely needs to be part of the comparo. It's too prolific to not to be part of the discussion.

I have the m50x here with me and they are more technically capable headphones than k240 studios for example distortionwise/ powerwise but sound quality is not even close when it comes to a realistic balance

OK, this is the current status. Thanks to Gil, wnmnkh, and Massdrop for their generous temporary donations to this effort. So I have these:
  • Takstar Pro80
  • Sennheiser HD558
  • Sennheiser HD439
  • Monoprice
This leaves the following remaining:

M50x $169
AD700x $150
SR80e $99
HM5 $130 (XPT100 $100)
K240S $113 (?)

Current list:

  • Takstar Pro80
  • Sennheiser HD558
  • Sennheiser HD439
  • Monoprice
  • M50x (Greed)
  • AD700x
  • SR80e
  • XPT100 (Claritas)
  • K240S

If anyone is willing to loan out the SR60,80,125 or any others let me know.

I think AD900x would be the better of the two (vs AD700) to compare to the HD558.
They were going for pretty much the same price in Canada last time I checked.

Well I suppose so long as it's readily available for a similar price that's fine. My idea of a budget full-size is <$150, and even that is stretching it. I'm not sure how much the two differ in terms of sound.
