I'm quite amused that we're currently #2 on the review spreadsheet. With a name like ours, it's perfect.

Probably doesn't need to be said, but at the end of the day, it's just my opinion according to my preferences and on my system. In terms of the rankings, it simply works like this: if #1 was not available, I would use #2 in its place, etc.

For a while Cheryl was my favorite, but Pam is making great strides. Think it might be neck and neck now.

Pam banging a gyro is my favorite Archer moment so far.

Pam eating the vegan crab legs while choking to death at the same time (ok, just one more!) was absolutely hysterical.

How'd you get a $6k DAC for under $1k?

Now this is taking things too far and totally twisting the facts (I never did disclose what I paid for the BMC).  Where did you get the "under $1k" figure from? Just because I looked at DAC's from a price range of $700 to $6000 it does not mean that I got a $6000 DAC for under $1K.  If the logistics can be worked out I am not averse to having Purrin get a chance to listen to it as I do not get back for a few weeks from my overseas trip.

I have already stated the reason for getting the BMC DAC1/Pre/Hi Res USB which is like three in one box solution. Now let me clarify it further for people with a comprehension problem. I have a Wadia 2000 DAC and Transport that IMHO still beats most of the modernall DACs for redbook. I  also recently acquired a Accuphase Class A amp to drive my HE-6's. Even tho the Accuphase has  attenuators there is just too much gain to be able to use with the Wadia system. So instead of buying a passive amp (which I initially did and returned it-but that is another story) and a seperate DAC and a USB=>Spdif converter, I thought it would be worthwhile to get everything in one box. I have heard the Offramp and I believe it  probably has the best implementation of USB. But the BMC is close and it is not subjective to having to use cables between a different box Preamp, DAC and a USB converter.

Interesting!

In my search for a DAC I had narrowed it down to the Exasound E20 and the BMC DAC1 a few weeks ago. In  consideration were Matrix X-Sabre, Concero, Invicta, Hex and the ExaSound. Eventually, ended up ordering the BMC, as I needed the preamp section of the BMC and I got it for a decent price. I am averse to paying list price for equipment unless it's in the sub $1000 range. Since I am overseas on a trip, the DAC is packed and ready to be be shipped on my return so impressions will have to wait.
Perhaps where you told me.

I said that I am averse to paying (full) list price for equipment unless it's in the sub $1000 range. But that does not preclude me from buying more expensive equipment above the $1000 mark if I can get a good deal (discount) on it. As a matter of fact, of the dozen or so stereo components I currently own only the Metrum Quad has a list price of less than $1000.

All I can say is there is major comprehension gap between what I post and what you understand. Enough said.

Very interesting stuff, much appreciated to all involved. I don't mind a few filter choices, but including that many (and especially ones that sound obviously inferior) seems more like trying to tick as many feature boxes as possible rather than getting the best sound out of your product.

Some of the filters that are available for use on the Invicta are built into the Sabre chips.  The Linear IIR and Apodizing filters are Resonessence's work, and are also used in the Concero (implemented via the Xilinx FPGA).  There's a pretty extensive comparison of the IIR and Apodizing filters in the Concero thread on HF.  FWIW, I prefer the IIR for most things.

Haven't been able to keep up with this coherently the last week, but I do have a couple thoughts I've been pondering trying to figure out our differing experiences:
1) I wonder how much the thesycon drivers are holding back USB performance with windows compared to driverless performance with Mac.  I have Windows at work when I use it there but always end up on SD with it there, whereas I gravitate towards USB when listening with my copious mac-age at home.  Then again, these are the same drivers Rankin preferred before he was murdered by a die-hard analog buff.
2) I use this a lot with SD which for me may be its biggest selling point - which I'd describe as "clean and clear and under control audio" if JPS hadn't already trademarked the phrase - did you guys do much listening with SD?  I left you tons of NJAD music on it.
