You guys are absolutely killing me. I went from aspiring the Eximus DP1 to the Invicta, and now to the PWD Mk2. The form factor may be an issue though unless I can put it under my 27" iMac.

Can they all be flashed back to the "good" firmware, or are you stuck with the newer one depending on what revision you have? That's what would keep me from buying a PWD at this point in time.

I'll been too busy enjoying the OR5--I2S-->PWD2 to care about the Invicta.  :)p13  I've filled in a few things in the spreadsheet though.

The new PWD2s cannot be rolled back to the 2.02/03 firmware. Only the original PWD1s upgraded to PWD2 can. It's interesting to see folks on the 'gon ask questions concerning this for the new PWD2s being dumped there.

Very nice review.

Can I trouble you guys to do a comparison between the invicta and the matrix x-sabre?

Thanks :)

You can look up the spreadsheet which compares several DACs. The spreadsheet has been updated: https://docs.google.com/a/changstar.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ArbLaKZd_-FsdGpvaWxoV2NtaEZYaWQ1ZHZsWkZtWUE#gid=0

Things are still being adjusted on an ongoing basis as I listen more. The adjustments will likely be minor.

Pretty bleak for the Invicta, but about what I expected from the comments of the others.

Well I wouldn't say it's bleak. Just not to my preferences. The overall sound of it makes total sense and I understand why it's highly regarded. And it's still very capable technically. I mean, there are many DACs I would just not bother listening to.

I still need to run it with coax or maybe out of the OR5 box.

Interesting!

In my search for a DAC I had narrowed it down to the Exasound E20 and the BMC DAC1 a few weeks ago. In  consideration were Matrix X-Sabre, Concero, Invicta, Hex and the ExaSound. Eventually, ended up ordering the BMC, as I needed the preamp section of the BMC and I got it for a decent price. I am averse to paying list price for equipment unless it's in the sub $1000 range. Since I am overseas on a trip, the DAC is packed and ready to be be shipped on my return so impressions will have to wait.

How'd you get a $6k DAC for under $1k?

I'm quite amused that we're currently #2 on the review spreadsheet. With a name like ours, it's perfect.
