I would be careful equating the OR5/6 to a cable upgrade.  Hope you don't hear one so you can save yourself some cash.

I'm going to try the OR5 that s1 is getting shortly and see what the "fuss" is all about. As I stated, if the level of improvement is more than just incremental, happy to contribute actual observations. I'd rather be skeptical on the stuff everyone states before I've heard it myself, as usual. I was not implying that it was the same as a cable upgrade. I believe clean power is a significant upgrade to all systems, vs. getting a megabuck digital cable.

Just got the OR5 with 2xTClocks , HDMI Hynes reg. the other day, although I'm not quite sure this is better or just the same as the one I had before ( 2xtclocks,OTL & SPDIF Hynes). I had a few changes in the system since then and may be messing up with my hearing.  Anyways I'd be glad to bring it over this weekend if you like.

I already decided on a zana deux for the th900 and now with the sale the ecp just jumped in and punched me in the face.
Nice impression twizzleraddict.
Any one can give me some clue in the difference between the three options of L2 available ?

I'm going to have to try the Zana Deux as well one day based on several of your feedback since it also seems like a good synergistic match with the TH900s. There very well may be several synergistic matches, each with their own way of presenting music that makes sense to folks, so there's no ONE killer amp out there. I would rest easy with your choice and interested in your impressions on HF or here.

Quoting Doug@ecp as he explained to me the differences:

"The standard build is the amorphous input with the nickel output. It is what I recommend unless you actively want something different. Don't take that to mean that there are upgrades -- it is the standard build because I thought it could not be improved upon without entering into real esoterica.  The amorphous transformers are the top of the Lundahl line.

If you switch to the nickel input, the sound is very slightly warmer. Some people prefer it, though the difference is pretty subtle. Kevin Carter of K&K audio (who is the Lundahl importer) describes the difference this way: http://www.audioasylum.com/forums/KandK/messages/8975.html So if you think the HD650's are tons better than the HD800's, you might like the nickel inputs better.

Similarly, the pinstriped outputs are slightly warmer (more of a difference than with the inputs), and a little less detailed -- tubier. (I am of the opinion that the things that make tube amps sound tubey are actually transformers, capacitors, and topology -- not tubes really. Tubes are quite linear.)"

Hope this helps everyone else considering his amps.

I was about to respond, and I see that I already did :)  I'll add to this that people often describe the nickel cores as "sweet" with the amorphous perhaps sweeter still. The pinstripe outputs might be seen as more "natural" in flavor. So the amorphous/nickel combo is the sweetest while the nickel/pinstripe is the most natural with the nickel/nickel or amorphous/pinstripe combinations somewhere in between.

To add a little confusion, the pinstripes will have slightly more distortion at low signal levels, but less at high signal levels. That is, distortion starts higher, but increases with signal at a slower rate. Manufacturers use this technique to tune the sound for slight warmth as well as to push through a little more signal without having to increase core size.

Sale lasts for about 10 more days.

Tari:

Which ECP is the best with the HD800? Although I'm really leaning for the ss option at this point if it mates wee (Levi incoming and all).

The L-2 is on loan right now so can't compare directly at the moment.  Last time I compared the two for about two weeks, I did prefer the L-2, and I think Doug would agree.  Either way, the DSHA is now sold out.

I would agree on all counts -- the L-2 is slightly preferable for the HD800s, and the DSHA-1 is currently sold out.

Looks like the production Black Diamond is underway.  These are Cinemag transformers that are replacing the Lundahls from the earlier protos MF and I have.  They will be pokies like the second iteration of the proto:

But chassis will be wood/metal standard of ECP instead of the see-through acrylic.

That prototype Black Diamond / Walnut combo looks amazing.

I've been listening to the K812 with my BD, and the pairing is just fantastic. Really added another level of solidity and definition to their presentation. Vocals especially felt like they were more distinctly out-of-head.
