Why [even] Deadmau5 hates Dubstep -- Fuse interview

Interview LINK

Surprise surprise... try to guess what he hates.

Even a guy well known for extremely repetitive stuff knows what's up!
I almost feel like doing pro-bono mastering for some of these acts... so sad.

I'm definitely not a Dubstep fan, nor a Deamau5 fan.  I tried watching one of his highly rated concerts and got bored out of my mind.  However, kind of silly critique as that applies to the whole industry across all genres for the past 20 years.  I wonder what he has to say about Death Magnetic.

This is actually Dubstep done right IMHO.  Makes me laugh he can't say 'waTERfall'.  English.... :))

A lot of EDM producers, especially in the Dubstep scene could learn a thing or two from the old Soul & Funk era.

A good groove is more than distortion and bloated frequencies...

You and Zimmerman both!  :)

I dig the James Blake stuff.  The YouTube SQ is terrible, you need a proper version to hear what he's got going on.

Yeah, I've heard that song of Focal Grande Utopias. Worked well enough at the time.

If Dub Step or Dub is your thing dig a bit. Leeperry on HF choose his user name for a reason...

I'll stick to Burial for now...

James Blake is good, but I've been less into his work over time. Yeah how cliche: I prefer his earlier stuff.

Burial is good. I really enjoy Swarms' "Old Raves End." Also 2562, Scuba, Ital Tek, and Vex'd.

I mostly talk about music there. Weird.

If Dub Step or Dub is your thing dig a bit...

I've never liked dub-step (even for the dub...) I actually think that Skrillex is the devil. :&
I didn't enjoy that James Blake song, either. I won't elaborate, but thanks for posting it anyways.
The closest style I like is ambient "drum"-step, I.E. --> Eyesdown (Machinedrum Remix 5" Edit), Bonobo

I posted this merely to highlight the rampant lack of even personal investment in quality sound from "popular" artists these days.
When even the most mainstream EDM producer I know admits we have a problem, we have a problem...

Dubstep is a misunderstood genre since people don't know what they mean when they say the word. I like you Cristello.

You need to hear the Blake track on the Grande Utopias w/ DSP.  That was pretty cool and lovely and very clean.

I listened to quite a bit of Dub Music as a kid, especially travelling around the Caribbean.  The connection to Dubstep is tenuous at best to me.  I mean, if I play Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture using an X-Fi crystalizer with a setting of "Echo", "Reverb" or "Bathroom", does that make it Dubstep?

It seems Dubstep is in dire need of sub-genres.
