If Dub Step or Dub is your thing dig a bit. Leeperry on HF choose his user name for a reason...

I regard these as a series of unfortunate coincidences.

When I received some of his music there were some unexpectedly delicious grooves.

James Blake is dub step?  Wtf. I thought of that as kind of a hip hop r&b soul hybrid of sorts

I have a pretty negative idea of dub step after all the deuches on headfi but i guess i dont really know what it is.

That James Blake song is not dub-step.
It is definitely fusion; a mix of classic R&B and Dub. (Plus very a very low bass line)

fyi, dub-step != Dub.
Dub came from punk/garage tunes, and dub-step is an aggressive sub-genre of electro-house (like death-metal vs. heavy-metal)

Older James Blake is more "typical" style dubstep.

And dub is not dubstep, no. It's not punk either. It's was originally a subgenre of reggae pioneered by the likes of King Tubby in the 60s and 70s. In part dubstep grew out of the fusion of dub with UK 2-step garage, though it also owes a lot to Basic Channel who pioneered a sort of "dub techno" which isn't exactly dubstep, and in fact I'd say predates it. They later went on to become more overtly dub with their Rhythm & Sound project, while others like Monolake continued their earlier trajectory and took it in new directions with the Chain Reaction label.

In my humble opinion generally: dub techno > dubstep.

I mostly talk about music there. Weird.

That was cool Shipsupt.  I guess I did know what dub-step was, that's what I always thought of.  I still don't see James blake's new album being thrown into that category.

And I can't imagine how so many people on Hf only seem to listen to dub-step.  They must live in a very small world.

haha it's funny how many "what song is this/where can I get this song" comments there are.  Was that song a good representation of dub-step?  :-0
