I think a lot of people (including me) use DAPs in a more quiet work area, for example offices and such. so it's nice to have something portable but still good to carry around.

i owned the old version of the studio-V and it died on me twice-- first time it died is when i bought it after ~3 months with headphone jack problems. it got immediately replaced and it completely died a month after the warranty got expired. the problem with the second one is that it got bricked after putting few new songs from the studio V microsd/internal drive and rebooting it after not putting any songs for a long time.

dx100 UI can be pretty confusing from the start, but once anyone uses it for a while, it is much better to navigate through. same experience i had when i come from creative zen changing to a cowon pmp which took me more than one week to navigate it properly, then moving to ipod and rockbox UI which took me a few days as well, then hisoundaudio UI which is pretty easy and simple about 15mins, then to the nasty T51 UI which is until now i am still abit confused on how to navigate to it properly, to a dx100 about a few days as well because it has too many things that it can do.

currently waiting for my F807 and i hope our corrupt customs did not keep it from themselves because i was supposed to receive it last monday lol

Same here. Can't go below 160gb.

Will wait for the slimmer 256gb capacity players to sometimes hit the market..

The iPod Repair Clinic in LA advertises a 128 gig SSD replacement for the iPod Classic. There are 256 gig 1.8 inch SSDs out there that should be compatible. I've been meaning to call him but haven't gotten around to it.

I know it's just Apple, but does anyone else really like the form factor of the current iPod Nano? If I could have that in 64gb with a SD slot and digital out I'd buy it instantly.

I don't see any point at all in investing in a supposedly high-end player like the Hifiman stuff (which coincidentally measures very badly) for portable use. How much can you really hear in a crowded street or in a subway? Certainly, with well-isolating headphones, you can have a pretty good sound but lets face it - it will never be as good as what you can get with a nice desktop amp and a quiet home environment. For this reason, it seems completely useless to me to invest in anything expensive when a basic Clip+ or Clip Zip will already provide more fidelity than you can hear in a portable situation anyway...

Let me guess, you saw the RMAA result on anything but iPod and that's enough for a definitive judgement? I don't use the HM-801 on a crowded street or subway, I don't really think that's the idea. When I'm traveling I have my Cowon S9 and usually my Denon NC-800 noise cancelling phones. Those are fine for that kind of situation. When I'm wandering around at home and I'm away from my desk, I have the HM-801 and the Paradox. Great combo. No contest vs. the Cowon.

I know it's just Apple, but does anyone else really like the form factor of the current iPod Nano? If I could have that in 64gb with a SD slot and digital out I'd buy it instantly.

I have the previous-gen Nano, the small square ones. It's tiny, so it's convenient for when I'm snowboarding or biking and just put on a playlist. Ergonomically, it's hard to navigate the UI because I need something with more length to hold onto.

That's why *I* love the form factor of the new Nano as well. If I didn't have mine, I'd buy one for "active use". Who knows, I lose the little damn thing all the time, so it may be sooner than later that I upgrade.

With that said, I know a lot of people think that Apple missed the boat with the latest iPod Nano. People were already wearing the previous-gen ones like a watch because it was so small, so the natural evolution would be to add some sync/alert/mirroring capabilities with the iPhone (ala Pebble Smartwatch).

But as it is now, it's priced a bit too high and is lacking features. For only $50 more, you could get an iPod Touch with the same capacity that can do LOTS more than the Nano can.

Yeah it's strange that they just made the Nano bigger, so now it's just a slightly smaller ipod touch.  It's kind of a different product than the old nano and I agree Quest, it seems like they should have just made them separate products, call this new one the ipod mini ala ipad mini, and update the tiny nano.  My friend has one and it's kind of an amazing device to use, that touch screen on such a tiny device.

I think the main thing is that the old one was difficult to navigate around. It was more like a shuffle than anything else. That's why I liked the increased size. Should be decent enough to navigate, but not cumbersome. I have a last generation touch so I won't be getting it, but just wishful thinking for a simple player with digital out and decent size mixed with Apple's build quality. Guess if that actually happened it'd cost $500 or something.

Why is no one mentioning the upgraded iRivers? Miguel a.k.a. Mr. Arroyo if I'm correct often mentioned replacing the standard hard disk for a higher capacity one. Even better if you find a matching SSD for a functioning Hx20 or Hx40 series and rockbox the old war horses.

I'm not letting go of my iRivers until something seriously better comes along...

Speaking of iRiver, does anybody know what the deal is with this thing?
