A highly optimized Ultrathin planar diaphragm produces fast deep bass and extended smooth highs. Near zero distortion, extreme dynamics, speed, and clarity.

Machined non-resonant aluminum structure, natural wood diffusion, custom JPS Labs cabling, and so much more.

Thoughts? JPS Labs appear to be a cable company, I wonder if that'll have any impact on the pricing of the headphones or the replacement cables.

Those look more like a prototype than a finished product to me. The rubber bands around the screw to hold the headband pad is rough. It'd be interesting knowing more about specifications, pricing and the drivers origin. I'm guessing those could be Fostex drivers.

Yep, that's what I've read at Head-fi. Unbelievable that's a final product. Impressions at RMAF don't seem very promising.

It's just an other attempt to make some serious cash on the audiophile market.
Let's wait for the measurements.

Here you can see the serpentine coil of the driver, set about half an inch behind spidey's woodshop project. The driver appears set straight into the (very nicely) machined dark aluminum of the frame.

The wood panel itself is about a quarter inch and composed of two pressed (glued?) plates. About half of the screws are surrounded by minor cracks in the wood.

When I first heard these I noticed a little glare reminiscent of the HE6, which dbel confirmed hearing as a bump in the upper mids. According to the JPS reps this is caused by the sandwiched wooden plates and the designers will endeavor to fix it by release.

The headphone band is rigid and angular, pretty much right angles at either end in fact. I'm not sure how much adjustment in clamping pressure this will allow, they felt a little loose on my head given their weight.

It's a so-so ortho with a poorly thought out design and delusions of grandeur.

No magnets on the back of the diaphragm and no damping whatsoever, not even dust/object protection?  Weird.  And is it just me, or is the diaphragm visibly crinkling on the bottom left where it's mounted?

I thought if you were going to have an ortho with magnets on one side ala HE4, you'd want the magnets on the rear because the only advantage acoustically is that the front of the diaphgragm has no slots/holes to move through before getting to the ear.  The other advantage is price because of fewer magnets (I think that's why the HE4 does it), but this is a 5k ortho...

So someone who didn't know not to drill/screw holes in wood w/ too little material to prevent cracking made an ortho.  Think I'll pass.  Don't get me wrong, the introductory pricing is ever so tempting.
