WaveIO USB to I2S/SPDIF interface
« on: July 16, 2012, 11:35:35 PM »

So after a lot of searching and researching, i have finally settled on this to be my USB to SPDIF solution!

I have one board on the way.

Need to build a shunt 5V regulator for it now :)

Awesome. I'm not soldering that though. Getting some local Vietnamese technician to do that for me.

Hmmm. Interesting. Better than those snake-oil USB -> SPDIF converters... This is real thing.

Can you comment on what snake-oil exactly you're referring to?

Ah, ok. Agree, a $3,000 converter powered by the USB bus with half the price going to the casework is ridiculous. For a second I was worried that you were going to tell me "it's all 1s and 0s, bit-perfect is bit-perfect, jitter is inaudible, and even if it was audible, any well designed DAC would totally eliminate it".

I'll leave that for the experts on HF.

Very interesting.

Has anyone ordered one of these yet?

Are these transports generally better than most USB inputs? Would it be worth it to get this over, say the $100 USB option on the Schiit DACs?
