I mostly talk about music there. Weird.

Humm, this is getting exciting! Although Luis and Marv are both tin ears, I am getting a good vibe on this amp :). As for the Moth styling, I actually have to say I am probably of that generation that prefers sleek modern casings so I would need to see the pics before I take the plunge for the 1k extra. In some ways, I actually like Craig's subdued designs more than some of the extravagant baroque stuff I've seen on the mothmuseum page. That's just me maybe?

Purrin that would be so awesome if they could have Joel Marshall get in on this - honestly I wouldn't mind an extra 1-2K if it meant the old Moth aesthetics.  This (along with some cool initial reports on sound from you and LFF) is piquing my interest even more if possible.

Arnaud, with the "Moth" idea I was thinking more along the lines of the slightly more conservative original Xana or 2A3 than say the steampunk decadence of say the Sphynx.

What about the Moth Empire Speaker system? Yeah - that's a subwoofer.

Insanity.  That would not fly in my house.  Perhaps the Cicadas...

Just found Joel Marshall's first and only post on HF, from 2009:

Moth Audio still completely exists as a non-functioning company. Moth was the electronic brainchild of Craig Uthus coupled with the art direction of Joel Marshall whose company Atomic Film financed all of the Moth Audio projects. I still have all of the drawings, tons of parts, designs for new amplifiers and intend on selling the company to someone interested in becoming a partner with both Craig and I. I have a lot of prototypes, artwork, website, etc... It would be very easy to put the company back on the map. Anybody with serious interest and capital out there?

I'd love to design cases...especially for someone like Craig.

Wonder what the suped-up version looks like. :)p6

Yeah, the empire statewoofer is one example of slightly over the top, in my book ;).

Would the 3.5k/4k amp ship with production tubes and can we order better tubes from craig? The one thing that scares me away from tube amps is those 400-800usd pairs of nos... The idea of a SS version has been floating around, but does it hold the water... ?

Great news about the possible high-end Moth chassis, purrin :)  Thanks for the great job with the frequent pirate updates.  My BHSE comes in on Monday, but a balls to the wall Electra sounds awfully tempting.  Maybe I'll just get both, since I'm fond of KG designs.

So I'm starting to round up tubes for the Electra - any suggestions on 6SN7's from your listening Marv?  Have you tried Mullard XF1's or just been using the XF2's?

I used XF4s. The secret value proposition. Syl. GTA Chrome Domes. The amp can be bassy and thick, so neutral tubes are best. YMMV.
