Guilty Audio Pleasures
« on: June 28, 2012, 11:26:33 AM »

So I'm wondering: what are some headphones, earphones, and amps that you KNOW suck but you still enjoy listening to now and then?

For me it's the Edition 9....

....

...What? Don't look at me like that!

I mostly talk about music there. Weird.

Mine is the HD800.

I feel guilty 'cause I stole it.

Actually, while not strictly headphones, I believe my guilty pleasure would be working out in my basement with my A5's.  They do workout music well but that's about it.

The W3000s? I don't know if they really suck enough. I just know lots of people get funny looks on their faces when they heard them.

Sextett and W3000anv.  I'm not sure which I prefer.  The W3000anv had cleaner treble, but I think the Sextett may have some superiority in other areas like a more natural midrange.

I wouldn't say they are straight bad though, I think with both phones significant effort was taken to place problems in areas that aren't very bothersome inorder to make a headphone that sounds good without having to be technically perfect.  So I find that to be respectable because there is a lot of intentionality and work going into them.  You might call them precise rather than accurate.  Though they both had issues....

"Tyll - Man, I love the look of these cans! Perfect for writing articles on my laptop in a Tiki bar. I found them comfortable to wear and, to my old school eyes, a treat to behold.

These cans measure horribly ... but sound pretty darn good!"

Those look awesome, dBel. They remind me of the Stax 4070.
