Welcome.  Washington seems a pretty happening place for audio - heck, they even have their own audio society.  Let us know how you like it - I think there be a member or two here that are also going.

DrForBin, I suspect you can be more curmudgeonly than some of the most curmudgeonly folks here. ;) WELCOME!

Ex took the McIntosh?  That's just cruel....

hello,

more along the lines of she had paid for it.  :))

i was the full-time student with the part-time job and she was the one who let me sell the car.

if i recall the set-up was:

McIntosh MAC-4100
http://www.classicaudio.com/value/mac/4100.html

B&O Beogram 4002
http://beocentral.com/beogram4002

and

B&O Beovox M70 Passive Loudspeakers
http://www.beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=869

she was a trained musician and had once been invited to audition for a national orchestra in Central America.

the loudspeakers may seem an odd choice. we were hoping for Dahlquist DQ‑10's, but the dealer (the old, independent Magnolia HiFi) was out of stock when we bought the system during some kind of annual sales event.

i trusted her ears as we had auditioned the Fulton Musical Industries "J-Modular" loudspeakers (at the original Definitive Audio across from the cemetery) and she was happy with the Beovox.

as she later moved overseas with her new spouse, i have no idea what happened to the hardware. :(

 ahoy

Some of you may recognize me from Head-fi.  It's still been less than a year since I actively started posting about headphones; however, I started the upgrade cycles a couple of years ago, have had AKG K240's for over a decade, and was exposed to Koss Pro 4AA's and ESP-9's very early in life.  I've got far more experience with speaker setups, but I've sunk more money into the headphone game for various reasons.  I'm also a life-long musician (no longer active) who's also got a bit of experience recording (both being in front of and behind the board).

Statements like "I think A is X% better than B" or "A achieves X% of the performance of B" concerning sound quality usually send my brain to the "blue screen of death".

I'm glad to be here.

Oh, and that little smiley that's staring at me and then puking into the toilet is giving me the creeps.

I remember huge drunken dorm-room arguments about whether the Koss Pro4AA were better or worse than the original Sennheiser HD 414s with the yellow foam.  I was a Senn guy in 1976, and I'm still a Senn guy.

Welcome.
