 ahoy  there one & all,

My name's John (or Raks / Raksy). Have lurked here for a week or so.

Found CS from threads at HF, and noticed olor1n was a member (have corresponded with him a bit on HF via PM). Piqued my interest.
Also saw a link to Analixus's latest HD 800 mod, which interests me. So I bit the bullet and joined.
Hope that's OK, as I see it was an invite first forum originally .

I'm an old fart who has been getting into HPs for the last 2.5 years or so. Mainly a speaker guy, but current circumstances have forced me into HPs.
I am looking after my 84 year old mother who still has the hearing of a fruit bat, so can't crank the stereo any more (wooden house).
Also she's not into dark ambient dub nor Mahavishnu Orchestra !!!

Can't bear to listen to my speaker rig at the low volumes that suit her, so HPs all the way from now on. Have about 6 HPs, 4 amps & 4 DACs.

Still going through the pre-req stuff. Very interested to see if CSDs can correlate to what I hear in my HPs.

Cheers,

Raks

Arrgh, thanks mateys for the kind welcomes.  :)p7   Bit more about me. Don't wanna get mistaken for an undead  :-00

I started appreciating music when I was a kid in the mid to late 60s. Started making mix tapes of fave songs recorded from radio via mike into family reel-to-reel.
Boy, pirating when I was 10 or 11  !!!  :-DD  No money is my excuse for that. Bought the odd single / LP to play on my parents' stereo.

Had my teens in Sydney, Oz, during the 70s. GREAT pub music scene back then. I'm an ex Bondi surfer / hedonist / sampler of MANY things.
Saw Led Zep in '72 when I was 14 (on forged tickets done by some hippy friends). Spent the 70s hanging with muso friends, seeing TONS of music.

Got my first system in '79 - goodbye to the parents' Pye phonogram  headbang - had a Connoisseur BD101 TT / JH Formula IV arm with Stanton 881S MM cart. & JBL L26 Decade spkrs.
Also had some Stax electret condenser HPs (?) back then for late night listening. Long gone now. Upgraded to other stuff during 80s, after hearing other systems I liked.

Been married twice. Sold the later hifi gear during 2nd marriage for the cash and bought reasonable lofi stuff.
Currently semi-retired (55) and single. Money will run out.  ::)  Oh-oh.

Current gear is:

SPKR RIG - Laptop/Foobar -> Meier Daccord -> power amp section of NAD 317 int. -> Thiel .5 speakers. BJC cables.
Not much used now, mainly for movies & friends' visits.

HPs:
AT AD 900 (1st recent HP), DT 880 600 ohm Manufaktur, MrSpeakers Mad Dog, LCD 2.2 R/wood, HD 800, Stax SR-507.

AMPS:
Asgard - BH Crack/Speedball - Mjolnir - Woo GES

DACS:
Cambridge DACMagic / Meier Daccord / Meier StageDAC / Gungnir

OTHER SHTUPH: BJC I/Cs and coax cables, Q Audio Fr Silk balanced HP cable & SE adapter & HD 800 adapters, Twisted Cables HD 800 Balanced cable,
MF V-Link 192, Stepdown trannie (240v to 220v) for GES, Ivy Bridge PC using Foobar & Dark One skin.

Sorry for long post, but you might as well know what's what.

So much music I like. To much to list here.

Cheers,

Raksy.

PS - I PC game too, ever since original Quake in '96. Also fool around with electric guitar.
