Hi, just joined here. Signed up because I was getting rather sick of the community at other forums, forums I'm sure you're aware of. You guys seem friendly and your CSD measurements have been really helpful. The die hard subjectivist approach to audio and general amount of misinformation and nonsense at the other forum was what steered me to places like this. I understand you're somewhat of a closely knit community though, but I'll do my best to lurk around and fit in. Thanks for having me.

Welcome Fourthwall.  I'm not sure what other forum you speak of, but you should enjoy your time here.   :)p7

Hey all, just found this place yesterday when I was reading up on the Frogbeats.  Purrin mentioned measurements at "his usual place" and from there I've spend a good chunk of the past six hours reading the threads here (probably not for the best as I have a lecture in seven hours).  It really seems that it's a lot easier to get useful info here than sifting through all the stuff on head-fi, plus seeing all the CSD graphs is pretty cool.  Hopefully I can figure out how to read them soon.

Best way to understand the graphs is to listen and then compare to graphs. Interpreting the graphs does require study.

Can anyone explain these 'karma' thingies? It's a strange thing that someone can take a swipe at you without being known or even knowing what for. In fact, it seems slightly cowardly to me .... or is it just a joke?

Karma points are for fun and aren't meant to be taken seriously at all.  Any statement saying otherwise is a lie.

Karma points are super serious and work as a metric to demonstrate your value to the forum.  Any statement saying otherwise is a lie.

You're not telling porkies are you? How can I stab back then?

If it is serious, I'd like to know why I got the privilege. Nothing I say is meant to harm anyone or cause offence so if I've upset someone, then I just would like to know how?

It's not well explained on this site and I notice that we're not encouraged to ask about it on the front of the site, which I have read!! Also, how are these things dished out? I can't see any Karma buttons!! Or is it a Mod thing?

Any statement saying otherwise is a lie unless I say it's the truth and then it could be.  :-00

I just smited you for saying it's cowardly. BTW, I have a twisted sense of humor where I randomly smite people - mainly the people who would react negatively to such an action. This mostly occurs when I'm using the tablet - when I click things by accident.

Just think of the karma thing as a sick joke.

P.S. Yes - it is not explained well intentionally. I think we left it up there on purpose to mock any sort of "achievement" or "me" mentality.

OK, thanks Purrin. You sicko!!!  walk the plank2 I'm a mod on another site and we don't dish out behaviour points - we talk and say it in the open. If it's a joke then fair enough. I took offence to it thinking someone wouldn't say what they really thought or something.

The joke needs explaining on the front page for new people you know!!

For newbies like me, this is a little intimidating, since I'm trying to be a good boy and I find it very hard. I really do. I just thought I'd done something to offend someone which I would never knowingly do (normally).

So I guess it was one of the 'sick' mods?  Or Purrin, it was you with your aspirin (an English tablet) :)p1 Jeez, keep your finger away!!!
